One design feature of the G20 is that it has an aerodynamically clean underside to the chassis the only things hanging down are the wheels. The prop shaft is above the under tray as is also the back axle and the petrol tank. the underside is recessed so that the exhaust pipe and silencers and catalytic converters are all up and out of the airstream. There is also a close fitting cover tray below the engine and associated gubbins and the rear suspension arms are fitted with aerofoil plates to smooth flow over them .
My mind says what happens, heaven forbid, if on a dark road on a stormy night at speed you hit floodwater ? More than 15 cm of depth and you could be in for a nautical experience I wonder if the BMW bods in the design office have run this through their test programme ? If so what are the critical limits in order to maintain affinity with terra firma ? |
