Too soon unless they decide to bring a "concept". Could be as late as Paris, since SOP is in November.

Ok, that makes sense.

But, is this going to happen next year, or in 2019? You had said in your earlier update that it was 2019 (I should clarify that I know the vehicles are being introduced next year - however, the engine update could theoretically come in year two of production). Although I don't know if that has now moved up to 2018 along with the N55 retirement date as you and lemetier were discussing a few days back.

G05 will be introduced with B58M1 ( the new one) and N63O2 (the current one) with August SOP. This seems to be the first real world application for B58TU. And it looks like it'll be rolled out to other models over the rest of 2018 and 2019.

Ok, so yes, it sure sounds like it could be ready for potential use in the launch of the M340i then. And probably the Z4 M40i too. But not the X1 M40i (which is fine since it will match the X3 M40i initially and both can then be upgraded sometime in 2019).

With the proliferation of the crappy Audi A3s around here it would be illogical for BMW not to offer its own crappy FWD compact.

Me too. I've been saying for years they need to make a RWD 240GC with a manual tranny. Preferably by Feb 2019 when my current lease is up.

Ah, but a current-generation 2GC still isn't happening, nor is a next-generation G4x-based 2GC. So, no RWD.

What we now have confirmation on is that the next-generation F44 UKL vehicle that we already knew was coming is indeed a 2 Series Gran Coupe as speculated.

Not that I don't think a UKL vehicle can be a good product. The new RS3 is getting great reviews, and it employs a platform similar to BMW's UKL. The problem is, so far there is no apparent plan to do M UKL vehicles - only M Performance. That means, as things stand, while we'll very likely get an S3 competitor (M235i GC), we won't get an RS3 competitor (M2 GC). However, that could still change in the future, and theoretically it could even change in time for an F44-2GC-based M2 GC to appear at some point.

And as a corollary, I believe it is confirmed that the coupe and convertible will be RWD, right (G42, G43)?

Sucks they are running on the fwd platform. Would have liked to have seen an M2 GC.

My best guess - and it's really just a guess with very little hard info supporting it - is we'll get 228i (or whatever they'll call the mid-level B46) in FWD and AWD and M235i AWD.

That sounds reasonable, and that would be my guess as well.

At this time, I have nothing to add to what I've already said on the subject. As soon as there's any new evidence one way or the other, I'll report.

Right now I think the most plausible arrival time for F44 is late 2019.

No. I would guess we'll see it no sooner than we saw the G30 prior to it's debut. So, next summer sometime. Just under a year from now.

No M8? Maybe during 2018?

Fair enough. For now, I am pretty comfortable predicting they will be RWD based on the G4x chassis codes (which could just as easily have been F4x codes if they were to move to UKL).

That jibes with what we'd heard before from other sources. I recall a 2019 date mentioned in tandem with some spy shots that broke a couple years ago of a small sedan that many predicted was a 2GC (and hoped would be RWD - either based on the current F2x 2 Series or the next G4x 2 Series).

With the 8 Series coupe not coming until 2018, I somewhat doubt we'll see an M8 before 2019. Just my guess.

I doubt we'll see the G20 before October 2018. In fact, I don't recall a public intro of a new-gen model, while the current model still has >1 month left on the production lines. And we know the F30 gets produced until Oct 2018.

For reference, the F30 was intro'd on Oct 14, 2011. The E90 was just wrapping up production that same month.
