Red face 2020 M340i JB4

Hi all,

New here, and new to BMW. Picked up a 2020 m340i xDrive and i love it. However I'm trying to figure out if i can use a JB4 on my car. My buddy purchased one for me as a gift, but i am hesitant to put it on the car because i dont know if its compatible and/or if it will throw any error codes and whatnot. Any information is greatly appreciated.

Thank you!!!

Yes, it’s compatible. I wish I had buddies that would drop $700+ on a gift for me

If he just got it, then it should be good to go right out of the box.
Did you get the Bluetooth adapter?

Not yet. I’m waiting to see the reviews on the Mission tune.
I’ve been researching JB4 for awhile now though.

I transferred mine from my previous 340i to the new M340 about a month ago, no issues so far. I need to buy the BT kit as JB4 doesn't have dash compatibility with the digital cockpit, which is what I relied on for changing maps and deactivating. Also, I couldn't figure out how to enable (if it even works at all) the can flap open feature since that was only accessible from the stalk controls (no controlability from the PC application over USB).

As far as performance, it's been great so far but I don't regularly push it to max boost levels. It is definitely making a difference being set on Map2 in my case.

Last comment, install was pretty straight forward and comparable except for one aspect in my opinion. Getting through the firewall. There is a black plastic piece in the area of the drivers side hood hinge that needs to be removed. It takes some finagling but it can come out without damaging anything. Once that is removed, it's fairly easy to punch through the silver metallic sticker that covers the access into the drivers footwell. I used a fish tape and didn't even have to remove any lower plastic pieces in the footwell, as I was able to wiggle the fish tape to pop out around the OBDII connection, then feed the small end of the JB4 cable back through to the engine compartment. Everything tucked in nicely into the area under the plastic cover.

Nice! Do you feel it throughout the power-band or just high RPM?

this is awesome would you be open to meeting in Huntington Beach/Westminster (basically 405 and Westminster Blvd) for a dyno comparison between your car and a flashed car? with the new HPFP I'm wondering how the cars will perform with the piggyback. We can grab numbers, performance variables etc...I think that would be great to share with the forum - we can even broadcast live.

Anyhoo are you open to putting your car on a dyno and hanging out for an hour or so while we do the same with a flashed car?

This sounds great! Do it!

Also, grab some real life 0-60 and 60-100 stats.

I'd be open, but an interesting series of events over the last few days. I'm running map 2 btw on the JB4 with firmware v13. Last Friday at about 1100 total miles my check engine light came on. No noticeable difference in driving performance though, but when it didn't go away on its own I stopped by BMW and dropped it off for a look. I've taken my previous cars to the same dealership and SA with various mods and they never care or give me grief. I do disable the JB4 before dropping off, but I don't go through the headache of removal or any of that.

They call me after having it for a day (they were busy) and told me that the engine code was related to over boosting and A/F ratio variance. They say it's related to the 'flash' and that I need to actually remove it from the car and bring it back in for them to see if anything really happened. I'm calling BS on most of it, given that they wern't even able to correctly identify the JB4 in the first place, but I have no tool or way of checking G series fault codes (or clearing them) myself currently. The JB4 doesn't officially support this chasis yet. Anyways, kind of unsure what to do at this point given they noted it on my paperwork

For now it is disabled.

I think autozone will read your cel code for free. At least they used to
I would try another dealer. Sounds like if there’s anything actually wrong with your car they’re going to blame your tune
