Michelin Pilot Sport 5
Just came across an article that has me a bit excited. Apparently, Michelin is about to release a new iteration of the Pilot Sport. I’m hopeful that they’ve improved upon (thereby correcting) those things I found entirely unacceptable of with the 4S. I guess we’ll see in due time. No mention of release date but I’m hoping to get my hands on a set as soon as possible.

considering it is generally regarded as the best everyday capable high performance tire for sports cars on the market. Nothing wrong with continuous improvement tho. |

I will probably need to replace my 20's this year that came with OE Pzero's 225/35/20 F - 255/30/20 R, my 1st choice are the PS 4S *. great comparison here. |

I don't think they've developed the PS5s tire yet, and certainly not one in collaboration with BMW that would add the "*" mark. The tire OP is referencing seems to be the standard PS5 and it isn't known whether it's going to replace the PS4(s) lineup.
Not a whole lot of information out there yet. |

What did you find unacceptable with the 4S?

I think the PS4s in the OEM Sizes 20" aren't available with a "*" mark?

A successor to the PS4S has not been announced, yet.
My comment here includes a vid that compares the PS4 & PS4S: https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1895582 It'll be interesting to see how close to the PS5 gets to the PS4S, and when Michelin decides to release a PS5S. |

Couple of questions like this so I’ll stay off my soapbox. I wrote a detailed thread on it awhile back which garnered quite a bit of hate from a select few who seem to be such fanboys of the PS4S that I should never even think of dissing their precious tires. Lol. Ah shit. There’s the soapbox. Anywho…. To keep it short, all in all I found the performance to be way too compromised for what the tire delivered. I swapped out for a set of Pilot Super Sports and solved the issues. My take on it is this… a “max performance summer tire” should be exactly that. If folks want comfort, get an all-season tire. Not difficult.

The only thing I remember you posting about the PS4s tires was premature wear. I don't remember anything about performance being compromised. I also don't think anyone here suggested max performance summer tires are geared towards comfort. I thought you had gone to some all season tires.

My only point with this new thread is that I hope they bring back some of what was lost with the PS4S. Maybe a marginal return the the glory days of the PSS. If not, then SC2 or R888R will be the ones I use for warm weather going forward. Not the end of the world. I have my opinion on the matter. That’s all. Take it or leave it, right? |

PSS are still available. As are Sport Cups. If you want a nice riding summer tire, I think the 4S fit the bill. If you want a track tire, get the PSS or Sport Cup. I haven't watched the videos but I would have to assume for every day driving and max traction the 4S beats the PSS. 99% of the people buying 4S (me) are not tracking their cars or driving them 99/100% on the street and will appreciate a nicer ride over a tad bit more feedback/cornering.
I run Performance Snows in winter if it matters any. |

Even thedrive is confusing this info by using 4s and 5s to mean plural 4 & 5! Seems like it’s time for some Michelin tire model name changes…
