Can't say I'm surprised at the result. The quote "It's another instance of BMW telling you that the car is sporty rather than delivering the experience" hits the nail on the head and has been accurate for every redesign since 2010.
They really glossed over how mediocre the Alfa is aside from driving dynamics, but for a lot of us here that stuff is less important than how a car drives.

I'd really like to know how the new passive dampers would do without RFT tires. BMW should really be sending the non-adaptive with Pilot 4S tires to the publications that obviously are biased towards driving dynamics like MT and C&D. Send the adaptive setups to the YouTube reviewers who just review the technology.
That said, the Giulia drives like the E90 and earlier 3 series so there's no doubt most auto journalists will love those cars. |

BMW 3-series out sales the Alfa Giulia in Europe about 10:1. Guess we know who has got the right package for the users? Then we have the issue of 3 different suspensions and the same for wheel sizes. Which combination is the 'sweet spot' for any particular user? Only test driving will sort that out for an individual, not any motor magazine review/opinion. Or any other user opinion for that matter. |

BMW has become too big and the world has become too global to produce what they used to, which was sports cars with some luxury sprinkled it. They can hit their sales targets all they want to, but it doesn't change the fact that they've watered down their products immensely. And it's a pure slap in the face to people like us who are at the core of the brand's identity.

"I already own a Shelby GT500 a lamborghini murci a lotus Elise and a rx-8 for drifting if this helps" and also have three kids in college. Then you came back a while later and said you were graduating from college at 22 and were curious if you could afford to buy an M235. And now here you are commenting on the G20. Is that all you or am I thinking of someone else? |

no shockers here, Alfa is really trying to appeal to BMW enthusiast who own E generation cars and don't want to move onto new BMWs, hell they even sponsored the recent Bimmerfest and had test drives there!
Sales numbers will never be as high for the Alfa as the 3 series, but Alfa is clearly going for the title of "The Ultimate Driving Machine." https://www.motor1.com/news/353692/a...mmerfest-2019/

I'll be in the market in roughly 3 yrs time and am thinking M2 or Boxster, but the Giulia deserves a hard look for sure.

For us old heads they are nice cars but don't "feel" like BMWs, they drive like cars from any other major luxury brand. What differentiates BMWs anymore from everybody else?

Make no mistake, I'm not judging anyone on what they value in a car, just stating the dry facts. The 3er is a fashionable daily that tries to deliver a little something for everyone, and does so while offering driving dynamics that are slightly better than most of the competing brands' comparable models. If you want something more sporty, you'd do better to ante up for an m-car. By that I mean an m2, 3, or 4, or maybe an m5 for the more upscale luxury car feel. |
