The base and mid range Model 3 sure sure sure.... Not expecting it to beat the M3P.

The biggest problem with the Performance Model 3 is its looks exactly like the lower models.
Which is kind problematic, even just for bragging rights? Though I suppose beating model 3 P (at least straight line) would be a equivalent to launch an electric M3/M4 for BMW?

Maybe next generation.

I'd personally be quite happy with a Plug-in Hybrid Electric M-Car.

Agree! This doesn't look like a sexy, low roofing Gran Coupe (as it should be), but a bulky mix of GT and GC (to me, this is more a GT than GC). So sad they don't use the Concept version or looks to the 6GC/8GC.

I was planning to swap my i3 for the "I Vision Concept" - as i4, but because its going to be a "GT"-model instead of a low roofing 4-door coupe, then I have to look for the Porsche Taycan or Audi e-tron GT instead.

...and Tesla Superchargers are only free for Model-S and Model-X models.

I don't see how Musk can open Tesla Chargers to other vehicles if the plugs don't fit. Maybe he expects folks to have these relatively hard-to-find adapters?

Over 70% of EV owners charge at home anyway. I've had a Model-X for over 3 years now and I've never even SEEN a Supercharger much less used one. We just plug our car in every night. Done. (We don't use our EV for long road trips - we have ICE vehicles for that...)
I'd guess Musk would be happy to sell an adapter and pay per kwh charging...or maybe even use-it-or-lose-it subscription charging! Btw, I ended up getting an M4 not the Tesla we discussed over many Bitburgers last summer . There's an electric in my future...just not yet!
I'm not sure - it's really the moat around Tesla and would outrage existing owners. Musk has indicated willingness to share the tech, but at this point, nearing saturation in some areas, I don't think he'd be able to share the existing network.

I have an i3s as a second car and it's a disaster trying to travel more than a 100 miles. At least on the East Coast, the DC fast charging network is abysmal (few chargers, those that do 'exist' often are out of order).

I know there are efforts to change that, but until Electrify America, EVGo, Charge Point and others really get to work (years from now) you'll be entirely reliant on home or destination charging (i.e L2, which is likely fine for many) with a BMW.

Worse still, as I write this, Tesla is rolling out 150-200Kw supercharging. In my experience, the non-Tesla network struggles mightily to reliable give 50-75kw.

I see it in the rear view pic. Could be this is the pro type for the gas version as well. They will share the same body. As stated above they look painted and it could be to fool the public. Not sure how the poster concluded this is an EV prototype.
On the side view, there is a decal on the door saying 'Electric test vehicle'.

This will most likely be my G30 replacement in around 2023.

I do about 600 miles per week (120 per day), so this is perfect for me.

I'm glad it's still not released as I don't plan to replace my current car for another four years or so and the government in Spain still haven't released decent grants and allowances for electric cars. However, being part of the EU, it'll come before long....(my diesel will be worthless mind! &#128514

Most likely, so they don't have to redo the console and shifter

It would be nice to have something like Tesla 3 minimalist interior.

Don't discount a Minimalistic approach on the shifter.

It's not gonna be anything like the Model 3.

At least BMW has better build quality.

Ultimately the 'i brand' meant sustainable. Recycled parts, environmentally conscious, light weight.

Now it seems they are in branding hell. i3 sales have somehow gone up over the life cycle but it's still well below expectations.

Seems they want to mirror the M cars with 'i' cars. The problem is they have this i3 and i8 clogging up the system so you can't have a 3 series electric or an 8 series electric without messing up the names.

But they want I performance to mirror M performance and M4 to mirror i4. So it makes sense to have the 4 series electric be named i4 and look like a mature electric vehicle similar to an M being a classy sports car.

The problem is it leaves no where for the i cars proper to fit in. i2 and inext are all going to mess with the electric 2 series they have planned.

i3 sells better than X2 and X4 here.
i4 will be the perfect long distance family or salesman car.
Since I don't need that I'm more curios to see further development of the i3 idea. Because as a city car it's neraly unbeatable in every aspect.

Until the production model is released, I'll take it with a grain of salt. Jaguar said the same thing about the iPace, but the real life performance sucked big time. Motor efficiency is another thing to look at beside battery size. For now, Tesla motors are the king and their 2170 batteries are #1 on the market.

Apparently BMW will make an i2 with Mercedes to replace the i3 and it will be more traditional of a city car.

I was thinking the same but check the rear above the wheel. It's more like the 3GT proportions, which makes me sad. Range would be nice to have - running autobahn pace won't last much more than 250 kms..

Hoping it won't look like a bigger 2GC, but looks like it will share the same "Hooydonk Kink"

On second look, it seems the rear trunk/deck-lid is very short, will this be a lift-back like the F36?

I'm hoping is not a Tesla fighter. We need a $50-$60k Electric luxury option, not a $80-$100k.

If this gets a normal looking grill over the standard 4 series, will definitely be taking this
