M340xi Magazine Instrumented Test

Is anyone else wondering why there hasn't been any official instrumented tests of the M340i (or M340xi) yet? I mean, the car has been out for several months (if not longer, depending on where you're located), and none of the magazines have done a test. It seems when all of the other "big releases" occurred (the first N54 335i, the first f30 335i, the first f80 M3, etc, etc.), the magazines were all over it and we had performance numbers very early on. Am I missing something, or, is there some other reason we're left in the dark on such a landmark release for BMW?

Actually a great question...

Unless I've missed it, none of the "big names" online or the traditional magazines have instrument tested.

I wonder why????

I prefer these more reputable sources for their instrument tests, as they provide real-world results of weight, acceleration, consumption, etc.

Strange...

I can't find them? Just bought a draggy to find out for myself. Will try and post numbers tomorrow night if I can find a good road.

I couldn't find anywhere to do 1/4 mile tonight. 0-60 with a -2 degree slope and a 1 ft rollout was 3.9, without was 4.27. None of the roads were flat, by the time I found a flat enough one to get a "Valid" dragy result, the tires were pretty hot and the best I got was 4.69 - 4.36 with 1ft rollout.

This car could be sub 4 seconds for the Xi with a tune. I don't see it doing any better than a 4.4-4.6 on a flat road. Maybe tires would help? Will do a few 1/4 miles this weekend and post.

What was most impressive was 0-60, without LC, shifting at 3.5-4k got 4.99! I did about 15-20 runs with an F30 328i earlier in the day and the best I got was 5.7. I thought they were supposed to be better than that.

What are the details of the car, what tires and what size tires?

Whatever comes on the 19's. I can look later. The 60ft times were all in the 2.1-2.2 range.

There are many tire options for the 19”. Run flats are heavy, have less sidewall flex, and the grip isn’t as good. If you got the Michelin non-runflat summers, your numbers would improve significantly as the tires get warmer.

They are not runflats.

Tires: Bridgestone Turanza 255/35/19

Got a few runs in today, but for some reason LC would not activate. It was really hard to get off the line. Best times were from power breaking a little bit with TC on and letting off the brake.

Considering my issues getting off the line, with a 2.06 60ft time, this is a 12.0 car. In the 11's with a tune for sure. It should be able to get a 1.8 60ft time at a track with LC. Or maybe just LC and good tires? Each tenth at 60tf is usually good for 2 tenths on the 1/4 mile. Also this run was after 6-7 others with very little time between runs. The engine probably pretty heat soaked. It looks like people with tuned 335Xi's were able to hit 1.6-1.7 60ft times. If that holds true with the M340Xi, they should be high 11's stock.

The 1/2 mile run was a little sketchy, there was a heavy cross wind, but it's good to have that data too at least. Apparently 141 mph is really strong for the 1/2 mile. Anyone know what an M3 does? Or 60-130 in a stock M3/M4? The 60-130 I got is much faster than the trackday video posted above, but that was an M340Xi.

Your car is completely stock? What I'm impressed with is your trap of 114+....wow. To me, that's the real sign of power. Is yours a real early edition (delivered this past spring) and it hasn't had the "power robbing" update?

Completely stock. Also 91 octane! Not an early edition. I was looking back at the first 1/4 mile. It was invalid because it was a little over 1 degree of decline, but it was a 12.4... at 100 mph. I was on the brakes the last 100-150ft.

Incredible for a stock car. Most don't give it the credit it deserves. B58 is one killer engine. Thanks for getting this done...

I think performance dropped off once the engine got hot. This was the first run. Will try later with race gas, lower tire pressure and a full tank for better traction.
