I was at the auto show and saw that car (not too shabby). Let's just hope they don't bring them in from Africa to the US. The German made ones should be pretty good. HP and torque numbers are quite good.

Hopefully not. I asked one of the women at the BMW Booth during the show and they said they were not sure. She said they could have them coming out of Germany and Africa. When buying a new car always open and close all doors numerous times to see how they close

F30 looks outdated already. 2 years from now I will be going "holy hell I was driving around in THAT?" just like looking back at E90 11 years ago.
You probably had a low base model e90 early model no m sport or any options added, a lci m sport a lux rings still looks more modern than most Audi's of its time and new Hyundai, Kia,etc. so I hate you

From my fading memory of that time, when I ordered in 2007 there was no M-Sport option for pre-LCI E90, just Sport package. I don't really remember as that was like 5 cars ago.

Sorry E9x looks tremendously outdated no matter what...

What's wrong with the Africa plant? My 340i came from the Rosslyn plant in SA and I haven't had any major problems with it. I remember reading something about that plant getting awards for quality and for having a really low defect rate.

Dingolfing plant - 21 defects per 100 cars
Rosslyn plant - 15 defects per 100 cars

I understand that having a German assembled car is nice and I was kinda disappointed that mine wasn't but after thinking about it more I don't really understand why it's a big deal when the quality is better.

American made cars are another story. My parent's X3 that was assembled in Spartanburg had numerous issues relating to assembly and quality control.

Thereís absolutely nothing wrong with 3ers produced in the South African plant. It received many awards for the quality of the vehicles produced there. However, itís true that the new, G20 3er will not be produced there. The SA plant now produces the new X3 for worldwide distribution. Other than Germany the new, G2x 3er will be produced in a new plant in Mexico. There is quite a bit of consternation regarding this new production facility with lots of questions raised about the quality of the product produced in Mexico and whether the workers in that country will be up to the task of producing a quality high-end product such as BMW.

Thumbs down

I can't believe they're finally bringing those stupid, fake exhaust tips to the 3-series... Are you kidding me!??!?!?

Anyone else also bothered by the cheap looking plastic behind the upper, angled part of the kidney grilles? Why even have the grill angle like that if you have to have the unsightly plastic supporting it behind?

At the end of this day while this is sad to see, it doesn't really bother me because there are still dozens and dozens of older BMWs that I have yet to own. That should keep me busy for a while. The people buying the new junk can go their own way, I don't mind.

at this point its more of a private road than an actual airstrip as it hasnt actually been used for airplanes in a couple decades. doesnt have any of the lighting or other safety measures required to meet modern requirements for airstrips. dude that bought the house repaved it and connected it to his garage so he can RIP his drag cars down it and get right back to working on em.

Not any more fake than any other exhaust with a tip on/around it for design. I'm not saying you have to like it, or that I do, but you need to stop calling it a "fake exhaust".

Lucky for you/us the same people bought the "new junk" in previous years as well, so there are also used ones available.

I mean, it's literally a piece of metal adhered to the rear bumper, not attached to any part of the exhaust system. Further more you can see the crappy 2" exhaust pipe right behind it. I think that's it's safe to say it is a fake exhaust. Fake exhaust tips at least.

Can anyone decipher this sentence? I think he's saying that we should thank people who bought older cars when they were new?

Oh. Yeah there is a "private" airstrip over in the desert, maybe about an hour away from me way out in the middle of no where. No buildings for miles, lights, or anything indicative of an airport. But if you drive on it without the proper permits or authorization you're going to jail if you get caught. I looked into because I wanted to go drive on it myself.

I think it's definitely not a fake exhaust, and if we're talking exhaust tips, how can it be fake if there's a real exhaust "behind" it, with exhaust gas actually coming out through the tips? But anyway... you can still not like it.

Oh, I'll decipher: what you're writing off as junk now - without having ever driven it and quite possibly without having seen it in person - has a good chance to years later be among the "good old BMWs" that you praise. I'm sure some of the older models you now put on a pedestal were considered "junk" by some when they were released as a new model, just as the G20 is by you.

So if somebody didn't buy that "new junk" back then, you wouldn't be able to try it out as a used car now.

I was at the auto show last week. I found the exterior hideous but my biggest complaint were the seats. The driver’s seat felt like a cheap piece of leather was stretched over a metal bar. That and the price are deal breakers. I miss my 2009 e92 with GIAC tune and M-Sport package

I mean, it's a fake exhaust tip, fake exhaust. Whatever you want to call it. It's trying to look like something that it is not. Don't get so hung up on syntax...

And while it may drive nice and be fast, I guarantee you I will have the same sentiment about this car in regards to it's shortcomings in 10, 20 years and so on. My issues are with the serious design flaws and the intrusion of electronic assistance in the driving of the vehicle. It will not age well, and it will not be an enthusiast vehicle. It doesn't align with any of the formulas BMW has used in the past to make a good car. This car is designed and made for $329/month leases. Nothing else.

I just leased an F30 that I quite like, but I think the hate for the G20 is weird. Granted I'm a new BMW driver. Apart from the grille, I think it looks fine, and I'm sure will look better with a blacked out grille and the eventual LCI. I'd rather get one of these when my lease is up then a Merc or Audi, but that's just me. I have the luxury of waiting to see how it turns out.

The way I see it you keep on "guaranteeing" your opinion on something you haven't experienced in person yet, driving wise or just in general.

You keep bashing on the G20 like your life depended on it while the model's not even out yet.

And this is not about opinion either, or at least not a very informed one at that. I don't see people going around writing this will be the best driving 3 series ever either, because we simply don't know yet. And those who do, have to wait till 12th Dec to tell us.

I just don't really get why some people feel the need to sight-unseen devote multiple posts to telling the world how much the G20 sucks in their "opinion", is all. But if you see into the future, props to you.

And don't take this "personally", I mean you might be right, I'm not saying you aren't or your opinion might not be justified going down the road. Just strange reading things stated as facts, as if someone has lived years with the G20, yet it's not even out yet.

Fully agree with you.

This forum is nice to get info about this new G20 but I am sick of reading silly comments.

People get bent out of shape because the exhaust is not attached to the trapezoid exit and therefore must be "fake". Personally I think it looks great, you can really notice it's not attacked unless your face is shoved inside the opening and frankly I wonder if this design will mean a cleaner exhaust opening as in less soot.
