Step 1 download your fuse panel guide https://fusecard.bmw.com/
Step 2 decide how you want it to be powered, with ignition, constant, ect...
Step 3 use an add a circuit for tapping an igntion power source (lthey have different sizes, ATM, Mini, Micro, get the correct size.) https://www.amazon.com/Automotive-Ad...zcF9hdGY&psc=1

Buy a fuse rated for the Amps of the camera, likely <1A, so a 3A or 5A fuse

The attached is the sybol for the 12v, I assume this is tied to the ignition, I would tap this fuse. If this is the same as the G42, which likely it is, then use fuse 273 (ATM) or 251 (mini). Check your fuse card to verify the 251, I'm looking at a G42, which only uses the 273.

I personnally would take out my multi meter, pull the fuse, check the power is off when the ignition if off and then it has power on when the ignition is on.

You'll need to find a ground bolt somewhere near there, run it to the battery ground or a self tapping screw with an eyelet.

If everything I wrote above is beyond your skill level, just use a 12v adapter if they provided one or buy a 12v adapter with pig tails you can attach to your hardwire kit and make your life easier.

Different options, one with bullet connectors already installed or the other you can cut and crimp, longer wires.

Everything you wrote is 10000% above my skill level, I’m not bad with mechanical stuff but electrical stuff is way different. That felt like I was reading a different language. Anyways thank you so much for the link I just bought the 12v adapater, you saved me from having to take all the wiring out and return the hardwire kit.🙏🙏🙏

Glad to help, we all start somewhere. I never had anyone to show me anything. It all started with forum tutorials and adding a 12v socket to my 2006 FJ.

So I just got the sparking in the mail and I still am confused. I plugged it in and my dashcam still isn’t getting any power. Am I supposed to do something with the ground or no?

I'm looking at the OMBAR on Amazon, they appear to come with a 12v plug for the camera, did yours not come with one? If not which adapters did it come with, link or pic.

It came with a 12v, was trying to find the box last night but I couldn’t. Ik I have the box somewhere but it was sitting on my counter for a little and then got moved so I need to find it. I didn’t use it originally because my radar is already plugged into the 12v in my console.

If this is what you bought,

https://www.amazon.com/OMBAR-Hardwir...s%2C205&sr=8-4

then this isn't going to just plug and play into the 12v connector. The red and yellow connector would need to be spliced together and then the ground connected. This is designed to keep the camera on 24hr a day, but connecting it to this 12v socket won't give you that ability. To keep the 24hrs you would need to connect it to constant 12v and ignition 12v source using the fuse taps and then find a ground point.

Okay thanks for the info, I’ll probably just return both of them and buy a super long 12v connector. Don’t really care too much about keeping the camera on 24hrs, just want to catch all the idiot drivers where I live and my cuts.
