Thanks; I'm hoping that the new one has a different capability from the X2, which is only iDrive 6.

Now that 11/2019 has been around for a while, BMW has finally posted the release notes for 07/2019, just in time before 03/2020 is out:

Best bet is to go to your dealer, claim intermittent issues with the connected services or whatever and demand that they do the upgrade. Maybe 03/2020 will make RSU a reality. |

I posted this earlier in this thread.
I’m in the U.K. and wrote to ‘connected drive’ last week regarding OTA software updates. Following the reply I received (see below) I have since had my car into the dealer and had the software upgraded to 11/2019.41 with no issues from the dealer after showing them the e-mail. Response :- In relation to the OTA Software Updates, as your vehicle has iDrive 7 this means that this is available for your car. When a new update is available for your car a message will appear on your vehicle iDrive prompting you to begin the update. However currently there is a known issue with this which is currently being worked on, where the updates are not being received in vehicles. At this time we are advising customers to have this updated at their nearest BMW Centers for now, as there currently isn’t a time frame for when this will be resolved.

Didn’t see anything new apart from 3D remote view in the app. started working again. I did lose a lot of the settings in the iDrive thou. Hope it sorts your issues.

Getting an update to fix the Connected Drive connectivity issues. Excuse the NE winter salt on my poor car.

BMW denotes July, November and March (for each MY) as the months where they commonly make a software version number change. Likely because these are the 3 times during the year that they introduce feature changes to models. Keep in mind that for existing cars on the road its relatively rare that BMW introduces new features. Software updates are typically bug fixes, improvements to existing features, etc. Also be aware that the x/2019.xx or x/2020.xx you'll see here is not really the software version number. This is a more friendly numbering system bmw came up with once they decided to offer remote software upgrading. The real numbering for iStep is currently 4.21.xx for most current models.

Thanks, good to know. I asked because I'm curious if we aren't likely to see a major release until March. If so I might wait until then to have my dealer upgrade me. I'm looking for bug fixes, namely the passenger-seat-only-preheating bug... and in know it's not included in 11.2019.

I have upgraded at the dealer to 11/2019 and can confirm it fixed the connected drive and app issues, including remote 3D view. It also appears to be less glitchy overall. The icon for the personal assistant app on the app page is also new! Still hoping this update or the next in 03/2020 will usher in OTA updates.

Appears to me BMW plans at most 2 OTA upgrades per year, if needed. For instance, starting 7/2020 production MY21 cars will get Android Auto. BMW already publicly stated existing iDrive 7 cars should see an upgrade available by end 2020. So, about 6 months after the factory release. Seems inline with them now releasing the 7/2020 update about 6 months later.

Got my car back from dealership yesterday. Updated to 11/2019.41, so apparently nothing new floating around. Good to hear since hopefully that means these incremental .XX updates have stabilized a little bit. Last edited by Pauleebe; 02-01-2020 at 10:37 AM.. |

I had the notification that the update was available, pulled it in via the app, then uploaded to the car, all good. Well No. It told me it was ready and would tell me when i could install... then it disappeared and now it's not available??!!

So I have my M340i at the dealership today for its first service/oil change. I have the 3/2019 (.37 I think) software, having received my car last June.
I requested they update the iDrive software, and was quickly denied. I was actually told, "They like to keep things on the same software that came from the factory." WTF! Suggestions on how to push back? I don't have anything that's necessarily broken, but I'd like to be on the latest... |

On 3/2019. CarPlay is buggy. Very buggy with older iPhone software.
Spotify is not in that version of you have connected music. Apps sometimes refuse to start. And some more. Go back in this thread to mod 2019 and you get an extensive list. Also, the release notes for 7/2019 are online now.

Your sales guy and service dept seem incompetently clueless. I wouldn't feel comfortable getting my car serviced there if they can't keep track of basic service bulletins. I would find a new service center... |
