My goal with my post was to show BMW that people leave the brand because of their bad planning and late announcements. They need to fix this stupid schedule of M releases. My dream car has always been an M3 - and would have loved one. Re. affordability - Affordability wise it is an uncomfortable zone for me (msrp $126k) but I just went for it thinking it is once in a lifetime. |

March 2020 seems too far away for G 8x M3, considering the G20 has been in production since end 2018.

I wasnt poking fun by assuming his post was untrue. I was poking fun by exaggerating the fact that he decided to buy a car which costs 50%+ more because of perceived bad timing.

I'm currently cross-shopping AMG C63S, Audi RS3 / 5 and others since I may as well have some short term fun while I wait for BMW. As others have said, money isn't the issue here - it's finding a car that fits my needs and I can purchase at a time that works for me without playing 'secret wait lists' and 'destination markups' with the dealerships. I purchased (new) 2 or 3 of every M3(4) car since E46- but sometimes BMW make it REALLY HARD! |

As long as ED is allowed and there is a manual, I have zero complaints. Do whatever you want to the grilles and start production whenever possible. See you at the Welt..... Last edited by seis-speed; 09-25-2019 at 05:42 PM.. |

The one at 3:01 clearly has a G20 front end. Some of the cars in the vid also sound much louder than others - I suspect those are US spec cars without OPF, and also there is a manual car too (1:11).

If we'd had knowledge of the early 2020 M3 release months ago, I'll bet there would have been a lot more talk about the possibility of the tall-grill M3 test vehicles actually being powertrain mules for the M4, while the small-grill M3 test vehicles were the "real" M3 mules. Meanwhile, there is still a group who firmly believe that the early 2020 M3 date is incorrect. Disclaimer: none of the above should be mistaken for me registering any opinion whatsoever. Just idle banter. |

Agreed that the car at 1:11 sounded like a manual shift.

yeah based on typical 7 year cycle early 2021 was expected release, so if productions starts in March 2020 thats a full year early, not out of the question but surprising. Maybe BMW feels like they need to do what Mercedes does and close the gap between 3 series and M version launches (AMG I think is within a year if not at the same time depending on model).

The regular 2 door has a much sportier appearance than the 4 door, lower and wider. This look suits the M3 well so I can understand why BMW design the M3 with the M4 front. When you move up to the M5 and M8 it’s different since the M5 is more of a wolf in sheep’s clothing and need to appeal to more conservative business executives where the 5 series front is arguably a better match. That and the price gap where you need to get something more unique when paying M8 coin.
My guess is that the M3 continues sharing front with the M4 but it’s more of 80/20 guess than 100% |

That would be a very accelerated timeline if those early G80 production cars are intended for public distribution.
Comparing to the F8X timeline:
In my opinion, we have seen too little of the G80 for it to be available for public purchase in early 2020.

BMW is planning March '20 SOP yet they won't release any official details about drivetrain, suspension, or dimensions?
Either the SOP is completely off or since BMW has very little to boast in technology, they are trying to blur out technical details with all the launch hypes.

There's a real possibility I misinterpreted the clues available to me. After review, I don't think they can be used to make a reliable prediction.
It is unfortunate this specific item ended up on the front page, causing so much emotion. I didn't expect it to draw so much attention, otherwise I would have been more careful with the claim. I'm sorry. |

Ynguldun, your “predictions” are very much appreciated and the only reason readers pay attention to them is that they have been very accurate. That said only the decision makers at BMW really know the final decision on a launch before it is officially announced. No one can blame you if you are wrong we can only be thankful for every time you are right
In general people here are taking information provided here far too serious. In the end before official data and dates etc. are presented it is IMO not advisable to make plans on unconfirmed information. Last edited by solstice; 09-26-2019 at 08:35 PM.. |
