Increasing Supply of Used 320d as April BIK approaches?
I would very much like a 330e but as a private buyer, the sums don't add up when compared to a company tax payer.
In the last couple of weeks, I have noticed dozens of G20 ex-fleet 320d becoming available on BMW AUC, and asking prices inevitably creeping down. Would I be right in thinking that as April approaches, even more Used 320d will become available because company car users switch as quickly as they can to 330e (supply issues being the bottleneck)? I may try to strike a bargain with dealers who have a sudden glut of the diesel models! |

Highly unlikely to happen as almost all company cars will be on a fixed term contract of 12 up to 48 or even 60 months (we're on 48).
I'd imagine the first big peak in used availability will come when they're 36 months from the first UK deliveries as many drivers will hold off replacement for a few months if there's a new model on the way. (although I did the opposite and took the old model as they were being punted out on really cheap deals) |

It will largely depend on people who are still in contract. I don't think its going to trigger an immediate surge in April. But after April you may find more people generally offloading their diesel.

If I were a company car driver and higher rate tax payer, I'd try to swap to a 330e as soon as April arrives. Fleet News made the calculation below for their 320d.
"Registered today, the 320d has correlated NEDC CO2 emissions of 112g/km, putting it in the 30% tax bracket; from April 2020, the WLTP figure kicks in, and the official emissions surge to an eye-watering 142g/km. Then a taxpayer will have to pay benefit-in-kind (BIK) at 37% – the maximum. That means our £36,190 long-term test car will attract monthly BIK for a 20% taxpayer of £223 – or £2,678 a year – an annual rise of £500 compared with the pre-April 2020 figure (or £1,000 for a 40% taxpayer). A £40,000 330e would cost a basic rate taxpayer just £80 a month, saving £1,718 a year – a 40% taxpayer would save £3,436." https://www.fleetnews.co.uk/cars/rev...long-term-test |

I wonder how many basic rate taxpayers can opt for a 330e? - not many, I'd guess.
Hadn't realised the diesels were being hit so badly - even the 520d MHT is being hammered, which really kills it as a company car choice! Manufacturers have some serious work to do in getting BIK friendly cars to market. There's very little out there right now. |

A win-win situation for a car manufacturer to meet their targets to lower the overall CO2, and their execs to pay less tax as individuals. |

I do like the thought of those cars, their main advantage being that they are very unlikely to suffer DPF problems because they have covered 10k in 6 months.
At last count, there were almost 60 of the G20 320d SE and Sport cars available online with BMW AUC for below £24k. |

Most will be driven by someone like me - I'll have flown into somewhere as it's cheaper and quicker than a train and quicker than driving and hired a compact executive class car to get to a meeting / sales pitch. I'll drive it more carefully than I would even my own company lease as I don't want the hassle of dealing with damage when I return it. They're all automatics, so it's not like you can bounce the engine off the redline either - and modern engines don't really need to be 'run in'. |

And out of interest, judging by your use of the word "your"what makes you think I was told that by a person I have bought a car from? |

The fact is, these cars are returned to BMWUK and they'll dispose of them throughout their own dealer network and then to the likes of Motorpoint, Arnold Clark etc So if you think buying an AUC means you're not getting an ex-daily rental then you're setting yourself up for a fall |

Fully agree on your first two points. However most manufacturers, including BMW still recommend that a new car is 'run in', BMW's being 13-1400 miles iirc. |
