330e charging

My cheap rate electricity is between 12midnight and 8am. I leave the house at 9.45am. How do I ensure the charging is done using the cheap rate and also warm up the car for departure?

I seem to remember that you’re not using a Pod-Point or similar house charger only the supplied cable? The BMW Portal ( as far as I’m aware) won’t let you schedule your charging like the wall mount options so unless you can run the plug through a timer plug of sorts I don’t know.
As for the pre heating that will be charged at your normal rate from about 9:15?

You will need to either program your daily departure time on the app or click on “Climitise now” whilst chowing down on your Rice Crispy’s.
I’m not sure if the supplied cable is capable of pre conditioning tbh

Every cable/charging point is capable of preconditioning, but if you are using wall plug with 8A (1.8 kW) charging the preconditioning may use car battery in addiotion of what is coming from the plug, depending on weather/charging power needed.

You can set preferred tariff window from either car or from the app; I have set my tariff window to be between 02 am and 08 am. Whenever the car stops one can choose whether to charge immediately or during charging window.

What happens if you set a time window too short to get a full charge? Does it stop the charge? Some days I’m going to a shopping center with charging points and I just want to charge like 50% so I can leave it plugged while do my shopping (and avoid some expense at home)

How about the weekends? How do you get it to charge during the night tariff but not set a departure time and not climatise?

The charging tariff window and climatization are separate. Just set the charging to be done during charging window (instead of "charge immediately") when you leave the car and charging will be done during charging window even if you do not have any climatization set.

I use the connected app, you can set up two charging/climatisation profiles.
I have charging & climatise turned on mon-fri and just charging sat/sun. I do have a wall charger, so no reduction in usable battery level after climate function.
I'm probably overthinking this as the weekend climate power usage would be pretty minimal anyway.

How do you set the temperature that the climatisation will climatise to? Also when I got in my heated seat and steering wheel were on - very nice! How can I set it so that the passenger seat also pre-heats in order to keep my wife happy?

It Climitises to the temp you have set on the two zone display on the dashboard.

What about heating the passenger seat as well as the driver's?

There's a setting in Car/Settings/Climate that allows you to select seat heating to come on if outside temps below a set level. I haven't checked if this turns on the passenger heating yet!
I always turn on the heated seats for her when i get in anyway, happy wife, happy life!

Go to Charge/Set climatisation and you have two time slots available,
I have 1st one set for Mon-Fri at a time and second one on weekend setting.
You have to scroll below the time setting and there's a Mon-Sun bar.
If you do this it opens a 3rd time slot and I assume a 4th etc.

No it keeps charging but obviously you pay more for the electricity outside the cheap zone. There is no ability to have it stop charging at a specific time or % full unless you do it manually.

Yeah prewarm uses a lot of power. Just try setting it one day when you're not plugged in and you'll find its grabbed 20%+ of the battery over 20 minutes. I think it's probably marginal whether the 3pin charger can charge any quicker than its being depleted, unless you reduce the current draw down from 10A.

Don't you mean increase the current draw? I have set the current in the car to 10A. Should I increase that so that climatisation doesn't deplete the battery which it did yesterday?

Won’t make any difference with the granny plug beyond 10a really.

Do you have to do that every time you leave the car? Can you not just leave it on the charging window setting?

Thank you! Today i had a different issue, I plugged it and it started charging and did not stop... even it is scheduled! I keep having the departure time and the charging time frame, but it was charging immediately... why?? Any hint of what to do when this happens? On top of waking up at 3AM to plug it...
