Now it may just be me but I never use the touchscreen. If I was being provocative I'd go as far as saying it's borderline dangerous to use it whilst driving as it's too far away.

What do other people think?

About the only thing I use it for is turning shuffle on / off when using Spotify - could happily live without having a touchscreen. Idrive controller is much better IMO.

Touchscreen has gone on the G20/21/22/23/26/29 from PW43
The main issue with losing it is that some customers like to use the touchscreen to access Carplay from the home page, rather than have to go into a submenu first and more importantly if you have the Parking Assistant how do you access "reverse parking assistant" other than by touching the icon on the screen first?

I wouldn't worry too much. Parking Assistant will have been deleted too

In my opinion not as dangerous as looking down to to find the buttons surrounding the idrive knob.

But surely when you become familiar with where the buttons are you don’t see to look?

Mazda are quite good at this. Touch screen is operational at rest and not while moving.

But the Idrive controller does everything you can do on the touchscreen and you don't have to look at it.

I don't use the touchscreen often but when I do it's invaluable. Things like address input where BMW voice doesn't quite recognise it and rotating the wheel per letter takes half a year. Don't use it so much while driving but is neat to pinch and pan/rotate map around too in new areas.

This can be selected with the idrive controller.

And very intuitive once you're used to it. It soon becomes second nature to tilt or turn it for the desired option and just needs a quick glance at the control screen to confirm. I've driven a variety of cars where they were just touchscreen only and depending on road and traffic conditions often selected the wrong input.
I remember when BMW first pioneered the idrive controller and all the furore there was about it but BMW said it was a safer option, a more accurate way of retrieving information and intuitive once you became familiar with it, and lets be right the early iterations of BMW's idrive system wasn't exactly ideal by comparison with how they have perfected the system over the years. So much so other prestige marques followed their example with their own versions of it, think of Merc and Audi here.
BMW then bowed to customer pressure perhaps? and from id6 I think wasn't it offered touchscreen input in addition to the rotary controller.
But now the method of accessing the desired information which was heralded as the better option at the outset all those years ago is bemoaned now with the lack of the touchscreen option?...I'm sorry I just don't get it....i.e. what do people really want?

I like the touchscreen for CarPlay (I have long arms!).

But not so useful for the iDrive. But I have had a lot of BMWs without the touchscreen before so I guess I am used to doing it without touching the screen.

Touchscreen leaves dirty finger prints - that annoys me!! I do use a few times, given that I get annoyed by the smudges, but not really sure on what! Cancelling route, shuffle songs, input satnav is about it. I guess most of that could be done by voice, but that's not always very good.

Interestingly I find the thumb-left/right and other gestures really useful at controlling media at least.
