Just my tuppence re LEDs.

When I got the car, I have to say I found them pretty average. I raised them a bit and they're much much better. I think too many people just accept the level that the lights are set when they pick up the car, and never think or ask anyone to adjust them.

They are set at the legal level, raising them just blinds people coming the other way

You see, that's exactly what I was on about. No, they're not always set at the legal level. Sometimes they are set too low, so therefore raising them doesn't just blind people coming the other way.

I can understand that, but the newer models are more expensive. So who's benefitting from the cost saving?

‘Raising them doesn’t just blind people coming the other way’

Are there other negatives for oncoming people ?

I think the standard LEDs on the m340i are very good. Though only reason I would have gone for the laser lights would have been to get a full DRL look as the standard cheapo line DRL is a joke.
At least all cars now get a full DRL set in the LCI even if they have changed the design yet again!

@225 have to confess the look of DRLs have never been something I worried about. Angel Eyes were nice, and nothing since then has looked as good.

Very true. Its a shame they didn't try and keep a modern version, the lci f series just about did then it went to pot.

Personally I just can't bring myself to like the new design. The front is okay but a little bland. But the rear is butt ugly and just horrible. Possibly it will look better with darker colours? I really don't like the new displays, I suppose I just like the traditional HUD unit. I'm glad I was just able to get my G21 before this came out.

I was very against the LCI dash when I saw it in the pictures, to the point that I didn't order a car when I found it would be LCI but in real life (sat in an i4 on Saturday) I'm totally converted and quite sure many of us will see the old setup as old-fashioned sooner than we thought. Doesn't look as good from the passenger seat due to the support though.

Do you know if the screens are lcd or amoled
Like to think they are visible on bright light as there is no obvious shade for them . In terms of relections I assume any would present as a vertical line due to the screens being curved in the horizontal plane?

As I said earlier (or on another thread), it seems a natural reaction to not think of the new model as being vastly better (if at all) over the old model that you own, as people naturally prefer to not have old tech.

My great worry is how distracting it will be. I have to say that I find myself with iD7 not concentrating on the road. Even the Mrs has noticed. From that perspective I cannot see it being safer putting so much on iD8. It's a bit like using your mobile while driving. though that is just conjecture as I haven't used iD8.

I watch this YT video of iD8 and there is info overload for an old fart like me (ie over 50). One thing that he says at 2:27 - "you can see we've gone for a more app based view which is what people are used to on their mobile devices". As I said earlier, it to me at least is, all becoming as distracting as using a mobile. I really cannot see scrolling through a touch screen and searching out apps as a forward step in safety.

Totally agree with you Charlie...I'm over bloody 60! so it doesn't sit comfortably with me either and share your concerns with regards to safety issues as well.

Even with ID7 these’s stuff that it’s either difficult or impossible to do using the controller. I’d imagine that it’s going to be much more of the same with ID8.

Funny how they drop laser light and yet still add laser light for M4 CSL even at the rear lights 🤔. I think laser light will be coming back in the next generation 3 series with more advanced Tech. I love my laser light!

I really think its an age thing! I think its a step forward and I'm 35. But I've also driven a Tesla Model 3 for last 2 years as a company car that has a 15" screen and no buttons other than those on the steering wheel.

You're right it is! I still write letters and cheques occasionally!
