I have a 318i M sport with no modifications and my insurance went up over 50%. I went on a comparison site and equivalent cover with a bit higher mileage allowance came in at about 15% above last years premium - no surprise to hear I changed my insurer.

Not been on here for a while so interested to read this.

My 330e has gone from £707 to £1030 with the same insurer and the same details as last year. Shopping around I can get it for around £780 from a company I've never heard of before.

Yet we have a 996 Turbo which was £703 last year with the same people insured, renewal has come through at £475.

My mate was connected to the insurance industry and said that the cost of basic repairs has now risen so much that insurance prices are having to increase rapidly to account for this. Even stuff like a new windscreen, it's no longer a few hundred pounds to replace. Guess cars have got so complicated that no repair is cheap.

Yeh and why they get written off after what on the surface appears to be a minor bump
All this tech such as sensors and electronics are getting stupidly expensive
I think items like headlights are ridiculously expensive .

I’m sure cars are being stolen for parts as these are now so expensive

Just bought an M440iX convertible. Notified change of car on a policy with Quotemehappy. Old car was a 230tsi Tiguan. Annual premium was £215. Additional premium on change of car for remaining 11 months of policy....

.... nil !

I hit "Accept" before they could change their minds.

Correct hence why I posted this thread.

I called many insurance companies and they said basically stuff like parts have gone up and the lack of them

If you hit a Tesla it could be 12 months before the parts turn up and all that time they want a hire car

The EV market is killing the car market with cost/parts etc

Its not just EV cars or Tesla but they have played a massive part in hiking costs up beyond the inflation rate

Agreed. A friend has an eTron GT. Had a front/corner collision and the repair time was 6-months and the bill was £25k. He turned down the hire car as it was an S-Class Merc which would have been chargeable to him looks like the blame will go 50-50.

Yes, all good thanks!

Had rather hectic 12 months personally but the car has been great.

I recently checked the individual values for the economy which has been quite impressive!

Yes it's years. I was talking to a friend in Philly at the weekend and she said her insurance is $130. I said wow, that's cheap. Then she said per month. And she drives a fairly old Toyota.

I'm with QMH - used to pay £400 or so on a Golf GTI performance. Now they want over £1000 for the BMW!

Me too... but the quotes I am getting are quite frankly outrageous. It seems to me they just dont want the business so quote ridiculously high.

Late 40's, 9+ years NCB, bog standard 330e.
Premium last year: £409
Renewal quote from DirectLine: £602
Elephant: £1800!
Churchill: £1202

Trying to get DirectLine to "see what they can do" on an online chat at the moment. It's like pulling teeth. The advisors name has changed 3 times and I've had to explain the situation each time. There's 10+ mins gaps between any communication from them and after about an hour I'm still waiting for an updated figure.

Quote wise, the best so far is BMW Flex. But not by a great deal.

I was expecting to be thoroughly dilated in the bottom area upon renewal, but it appears that getting in a renewal quote early (about five weeks) with current provider Aviva has seen my premium go from £1,235.08 to £861.75!!

Bizarrely, their quote for an auto renew was £1,433.94! What the Dickens is going on?!

FYI quite a few insurers seem to be thinking an m340 is an M car.

Something has changed in the last year. I can tell as those effective the quote is 4x larger, and all asking for trackers (I suspect the same underwriter ).

Remember as well your postcode plays a large part in your quote , if they have had a lot of claims in the area then it has a huge effect.

I renewed with admiral in may, paying less than 400

I'm having a nightmare at the minute with insurance renewals.

Currently paying £584 at admiral with 4 years NCB, for an f31 330d m sport. Few mods such as carbon fibre trim internally, digital dash and upgraded steering wheel. Due to expire middle of July.

New quotes online showing as £1000+ minimum! Tried every price comparison site going. The price increase is absolutely astonishing. I usually change every year and get close to if not cheaper than what I already pay, but twice already this year I've done quotes for families vehicles and there renewals have been way cheaper than the best price comparison quotes which is absurd.

I'm going to have to try Chris Knotts which I've seen floating about on here to see what I can get as I've a feeling admirals renewal will be ridiculous considering they won't even show up on price comparison sites at all right now for this vehicle. Probably decided they don't want to insure the 3 series any more.

Hmmmmph!!

I find Admiral are usually open to a bit of haggling but I think the bottom line is we're all getting spanked (pun intended).

I’ve fell foul of this.

Admiral renewal has jumped over £600 extra a year!!

Found it with quote me happy for not far off what I pay at the moment, BMW and Direct Line were ridiculous expensive!

Might try Adrian Flux. Has anyone got a decent deal out of them?

Been watching this thread with interest for some time now and seeing as my renewal date is coming up soon (mid July) I rang my broker today to see what my renewal was going to be and have been told it's up from just under £400 last year to just over £500 this year. Since I changed my car mid way through last year's policy dates they had only increased my premium by less than £50 for the remaining period (September 2022 to June 2023) so the increase reflects the fact that my current car was more expensive than my previous one and at this renewal date is still under one year old.
That was only part of the story though and the advisor I spoke to informed me that the main increase is due to all insurance companies are now, by law apparently, no longer allowed to apply any form of 'loyalty discount' to their customers and the premiums now reflect the more accurate cost of policies.
I don't know what the changes in insurance law are all about perhaps someone on here understands this better and may care to comment?
The advisor admitted that repair costs and parts availability have also impacted on policy price increases but not to the extent one would imagine being mainly based on inflation as has always been the case pretty much year on year.
All said and done I didn't experience the shock that some clearly have and from my own personal circumstances further discussion with the advisor revealed that whilst I have a compulsory excess of £250 on my policy I had no additional voluntary excess applied to it. Playing about with some figures and a voluntary excess of £250 added to the compulsory excess will bring my premium down to a mere £30 more than last year....I'm seriously considering it.

The FCA introduced rules around fair pricing last year which was supposed to stop the issue of dual pricing where insurers were charging more for renewal customers and less for new customers. The reason for this was because there was concern that renewal customers who did not shop around were paying more than they needed.

The upshot of this was that the premium for a new and renewal customer must be the same which has resulted in premiums for a lot of people going up as clearly insurers are not going to wholesale reduce their prices. Alongside this has been the issue of inflation and lack of vehicles/parts which has caused a massive spike in claims costs. The lack of vehicles/parts means that people spend longer in courtesy or hire vehicles, the cost of which is all borne by insurers!
