Those would only apply in a "changed your mind within 14 days" scenario. You haven't changed your mind, you're going for "goods not as described". In that instance, you are entitled to a FULL refund.

Thats a shame, I have known finance companies get involved not just for cars, a work colleague had issues with a leather suite and they got it sorted ..

I think 4 of the pics I took were uploaded but not added to the post with the pics in it, so here are those pics. Bumper scratches, another angle of a bumper chip and a more distant shot of the bonnet.

Just a "heads-up", BMW do not sell Oxide Grey touch-up sticks - or at least they didn't when I tried to get one about a year ago.

Wonderfull Still, What I'm looking at isn't going to be fixed with just a touch up pen anyway.

They don't do arctic race blue either which is why I went with Chipex.

I did google for Oxide Grey touch up paint a week or so ago, just out of interest, and Chipex was the only hit I got. sjb993's post explains why.

Good to know! The door repaint is very good, I have zero issues with the "repair" they have done.

That's what's really baffled me about the stone chips. They spent the time and effort to fix what they reported to be a very small ding that was just too small and hard to get to to pull out, but then then didn't notice or bother with a couple of horrendous stone chips.

Perhaps the chips did happen on the way here. When the driver left Dorchester and for a good 60 - 70 miles he said it was heavy rain, after that the rain cleared. Thus the car got to me a bit dirty, and they did not take it anywhere to clean it.

First thing I did was hose the car down and that's when I spotted the stone chips on the bumper. I'd already spotted the stone chips on the bonnet when the driver was still with me.

He took a few pics of those, but was sure he would have felt it if a stone or two had did the car on the road up, and he did not go over 55 most of the way here.

Sorry to hear of your troubles, is there an option for someone like chips away to repair locally and bill the dealer? Have used in the past on bumpers but maybe not so easy on a bonnet. Just a thought. Shame they didn’t trailer the car to you but guessing that was more money maybe?

Sorry to hear this! Shame that it takes the shine out of new car day….
One thing I would add though is that in my two years with my M340 is that the biggest dissatisfaction is the robustness of the paint. Especially on the plastic bumpers…. IMO it’s shocking and will chip from hitting a fly at 5mph! Ok slight exaggeration; however I wonder if it’s down to the pearlescent paints I have? And maybe the same on yours. My Alpine white F30 had less chips in it when I sold it at 6 years old than mine does now.

I should have ppf’d ar the start but I’m at point of considering front bumper re spray and then ppf.

And having rejected cars in the past a dealer will only take that seriously if you set it out in writing. Personally, I’d be getting a quote local to you for getting them fixed so you know what you will want from them. Poor that it was described as immaculate tho…
Good luck

Keep the car, fight for your rights, escalate and get them to cover the repair costs, no touch up, proper bodyshop, get some quotes too so you know the value of it.

Thanks guys, I appreciate your replies. So an hour or so ago I went over to a well respected bodywork shop not too far away from me. I explained the situation to him, the boss of the business, and TBH he's left me unsure what do do now.

Really nice guy. I had a good chat with him, another BMW enthusiast.

He said he can touch the chips up best he can, either BMW supply the paint or he can, for a very small fee, but I'd still see it, or I could get the full bonnet repainted and laquered etc, and that would cost about £1K or just over maybe.

He thinks he'd need to blend the paint into the front wings for it not to be noticeable. so added cost for that.

But, then after we'd been chatting a while, he said that to be honest, the paint and laquer they use, even the good stuff, is not as hard wearing as the laquer done at the factory, and if he painted it, or any other bodywork shop painted it, at first it would be back to looking immaculate again, but after a year or so I'd start to notice a difference in the finish compared to the factory panels.

To be fair, the car is 2.5 years old now, I did not expect the bodywork to be perfect, I felt he thought that the best course of action was to touch it up and live with it.

Not sure, maybe he just didn't fancy doing the job, i.e. the whole bonnet, detected I'm a picky bugger!. Oxide grey is one of those colours that's realy hard to get right I think.

Oh, I shoud mention what the dealer said... At first they just offered to send up touch up paint, but i said that was not acceptable and that I'd get some quotes to have it fixed and they'l have to fit the bill.

There is another place I will go talk to, see what they say about doing a "smart" repair on the bonnet and bumper.

I had asked from my first enquiry regarding the car if I could have it transported up, but was basically told that it would be really really expensive and that they routinely send drivers to deliver cars all over the country, although admitedly, not generally as far as 440 miles away.

NOW however, Oh yes, we could have done that, but it would have cost £900 to £1K rather than the £400 I had to cough up to have the car driven up. Frankly, I'd hae paid the extra, given the total cost of the car, it would have been worth it.

The bodywork shop I went to today specialised in accident damage repair really, where you are replacing and painting whole panels. So I'll do some research on bodywork chip repair, see if I can find somewhere not too far away that specialises in chip repair work like chip away.

From the looks of the stone chips on the front bumper of my car, it's not so much the paint that's the issue, but more the fact that the plastics they are using now are so soft and flexible. Most of the stone chips on my bumper look like tiny little crater impacts with a raised ring around them from the displacement of the material i.e. plastic.

It doesn't matter how tough the paint is if the surface underneath it is soft plastic.

Turns out there is a ChipsAway Repair shop in Glasgow, so not that far away from me. I've sent them the pics and asked for a quote. Hopefully I will hear back from them on Monday some time.
