I'm a moron... Need Computer Monitors...

I just purchased a new Windows 7 Desktop for my home office, a Dell XPS 8000. My old machine, a Gateway running XPS runs dual monitors that I purchased 2 years ago. The monitors are good but not great. They are 22 inches, but not "Widescreen" 16x9 or high def. The size of them, however,is perfect.

So, I ordered two high-def 22 inch dell screens. They were delivered but, as soon as I put one on the desk it looked smaller and lower. I hated it.

So...couple of questions...

1) Can I still get high quality monitors that aren't "widescreen" or are those now obsolete?
2) If the answer to the above question is "no", do we know of any monitors that are a bit "higher", as the dell widescreens sat really low off the desk...
3) Finally, any good recommendations?

Your problem would be lessened if you had gotten a 16x10 monitor. I personally find that slight adjustment from 16:9 to 16:10 to make a world of difference in how squinty they monitor appears. You may need alittle time to acclimate to the new size as well, I did when I switched. Since the current large screen standard resolution is 1920x1200. (Though you maybe have to move up to a 24" monitor to really view that resolution.) 1920x1200 matches perfectly to 16:10. Also, no ground breaking (or even average) LCD screen will come in the old 4:3 format anymore. 16:9 monitors are generally considered as media monitors, where as 16:10 is more for actually computer applications, color accuracy, and higher response times.

What is your price point?

The Dell 24" 2408WFP was a pretty good 16:10 monitor. I'm using one at work. It also just recently went out of production for the new U2410 I believe. So you might be able to get a deal on one.

Also, NEC had a refurbished monitor sale going on not too long ago. It may still be going on. Here is a link.

The NEC LCD2490WUXI2 is probably one of the best monitors around, but new they cost near $1000. I remember seeing one on that refurb page for like $250.
