what's the technical limitation to make various obd2 adapters work? and I'm not talking the type of adapter. like i already have two adapters but for xHP i need to buy another one. is it just capitalism? it's quite annoying.

It depends on the protocol needed for a certain job.
ENET is for F-/G-series plus Supra for e.g. coding and flashing.
CAN is for E-series coding and G-series/Supra flashing of xHP.
K-Line is for older models.

The MHD universal WiFi adapter supports all of this protocols while other adapters may only support one protocol.

thanks michael, turns out the xhp website has the mhd universal adapter as a small icon but how am i supposed to know that without knowing that it exists. they only link to xHP & thor adapter and don't mention any others.

that's a shame i guess they prefer making another $20 on top of the overcharging $500 i already gave them. will think twice the next time I'll buy something from them.

You can just use an ethernet OBD2 cable and be done with all of that although it is less convenient than wireless.

ethernet obd2 adapter doesn't work with xHP (on Android) it recognized and talked to the car but when it came to flashing it said nuh-uh you are not on my list.

XHP only works with XHP adapter, thor adapter, MHD and BM3 I believe for the G chassis cars.

ack, i did cancel the xhp flashtool and getting the mhd universal instead. just need to sell my OBDLink CX now that i got a couple weeks ago.

looks like for Gxx cars the MHD Universal Wifi (sometimes called MHD Wireless) adapter is the only one that can do it all, also any bluetooth one will be terribly slow, don't get it.

for anyone arriving here and the MHD Universal Wifi adapter not working: download the MHD F+G Android app, read codes, it will update firmware which makes it functional with xHP & Bimmercode.
