Kinda funny to see people want a car build for track but can't recognize racing gloves.

New M cars sucks. New EU sound regulations from 2019-2026 destroys the sound, and everything the driver/passenger hears is fake. EPS vs the better hydraulic, and the NA is long gone (7years). The look is good imo, minus the 4-series+G80. I always drive manual, but maybe more euro buyers of the next M2/M3/M4 will choose the manual version, like they do in the US, because the last M car with the DCT will be the M2. 2010-2020, the decade almost everything went down.....

It makes no sense to make different engines, if they have (or are expected to have) the same weight, power and cylinder count.

I also don't like the new M promo, it is fine as a product promo showcasing "we have that, because of this", but for the M-fans I would expect something more charismatic and full of driving emotions from track. It does not look appealing the the target audience at all.

Then a few things happened, like the double-clutch transmission was canceled for the M5, and I thought, “This is not my game anymore,” and I left. My plan had been to retire after this M5 launched, but suddenly I had a new adventure.
Good on him, as an engineer myself you want to have the freedom to innovate and improve on what you have. If it was me, I'd be looking to see how the DCT could be improved in terms of shift speed and driveability - see PDK as a prime example of something to aim towards. I admire him for sticking to his guns and going elsewhere. But alas, imagine if he had stayed, we could be waiting for the unveiling of something quite special.

I believe the reason for M using the M8SpeedAuto is the complexity of the AWD system as well as the extra horse power
The only reason they are going 8AT is cost saving.

It would have been possible to develop a DCT that can handle AWD and more torque (even the current DCT can handle the S58 torque), other manufacturers have done so.

Not quite. There were days where it was the average Joes buying the base non-M models that financed the niche M models produced in rather low volumes. Now BMW has more variants carrying the M badge than without

It’s not possible to conclude this by the nominal sizes alone. Nominal sizes tell little about the contact patch width

Those are the same sizes as the M5 and M8 and on these cars the PS4S front are 9.2” wide while the rears are 10.1” wide, 0.9” difference, far from square.

It has been this way for decades. It's automotive manufacturing 101.

That's only true for north america, where BMW only offers the 330i, (the 330e maybe?), the M340i and the M3.

In Europe, you get 330e, 318i, 320i, 330i, 318d, 320d and 330d, besides the M340i and the M340d (and the M3 of course).

Dont forget the variants within the M lineup: base/competition/CS/CSL

Assuming PS4S -

275/35-19 front
285/30-20 rear

Tread width is 9.8" front vs 9.9" rear.

For reference, GTS is 9.1" front vs 10.3" rear.

rwd comp version should be able to spin 360's.

I have a feeling history will not be kind to this generation of M3/4s, perhaps even worse than the 996 generation. At least those 911s had an admirable level of engineering prowess with one of the latest Mezger engines.

This on the other hand is engineering purely to maximize profit.
Not a single strive for achieving what M stands for: to provide “distinguished drivers” with something elemental, of motorsport.

Even less enthusiast recipe vs F8x, more soccer moms incoming.

What's the logic for offering less HP in the 6 speed model? The market for the 6 speed is already almost non-existent, now they're tying it to a watered-down engine. Seems like they want to kill off the manual once and for all for the future generations.

Before learning that the Comp version will be offered rwd as well, would have suggested hp limitation in the interest of drivability. Does seem they're trying to steer the audience in a particular direction..

Yup. Manufacture a lower take rate and then say the take rate is so low that we have to abandon it.

So you're meaning to tell me that the reason why you sold your car is because of what others do to their own? Sounds like a quality of life...

Funny, the average joes are the majority that buy these cars that allow bmw to make a profit so you can buy your M4 and enjoy it and use it on the track...
