New soon-to-be-owner of 2021 M340i xDrive

Hey everyone. This is post #1 for me. Yeah I'm a newb here though I've been following this board for the past several weeks in order to get an understanding of how owners feel about their M340i, etc. I literally placed my order today and am really looking forward to getting my new car! I'm told there's a decent chance I'll be able to take delivery by the end of April. Fingers crossed!

For the record, the first and only BMW I have ever owned was an e46 M3 way back in 2001 and I loved that car. It's amazing how things have evolved since then (good and bad) but the thought of having an M performance car as opposed to a true M car yet packing a 382hp engine is unbelievable IMO. Looking forward to hanging around here in the future!

Congrats on your future M340i. It's an amazing car.

The wait is the hardest part, which is why I buy what's on the lot!

Thanks! Yeah it may be hard but coincidentally this is only the second time I have custom ordered a new car. First one was the aforementioned e46 M3!

Fortunately the lead time doesn't seem to be too long and I'm sure having the factory in San Luis Potosi, Mexico helps a lot! More importantly I was able to spec the car EXACTLY how I wanted it, including some nice CF bits

Wait... seriously? That's definitely something I was not aware of and at the risk of looking like a fool, I'm going to admit I have no clue about the additional HP with the mild hybrid setup. If you're being serious and this is true, NICE!!

On a side note I saw that Dinan released a new CAI for this car which allegedly adds another 9HP. That is very tempting. Looks nice too. I wonder whether anyone here is planning on installing that.

for sure keep us posted! I am getting the MPExhaust and would consider a CAI to open up a little more engine sound.

OP FYI the Dyno numbers I am seeing on these M340xi is around 405-420 hp/torque! BMW continues to under-rate their power numbers.

Got a link / video / proof of 420 somewhere?

Reference my sig line on here but I thought it was pretty standard knowledge that around 10% of your power is lost to the drivetrain and such between the crankshaft and the wheels on any given car. On an AWD car, it can be up to 20%, though I doubt BMW's system is that inefficient.

I'm not sure if the advertised 382 hp is at the wheels or crank but it sounds like wheels.

Back to the primary subject matter... ahem.

I just registered on BMW USA's website (late to the game) and discovered that my car just entered the production que TODAY! I'm getting psyched now. This is what I love about BMW, being able to track production of vehicles. Very cool.

Loved seeing this on my page on the BMW site:

BMW M340i xDrive Sedan NA

PRODUCTION BEGINS
Today's the day: your BMW has entered the production queue.

Did you order it in CF with Alcantara weave 😉

I didn't notice your chosen exterior/interior colours anywhere in the thread?

Why yes I did!

Yeah I never really discussed what specs I ordered but figured it would come up when I take delivery. However, I'll mention that I went for the "Panda" spec. I've always been a sucker for that color combo, especially with a nice tint to compliment the look.

Mineral White
Shadowline package
Black Vernasca leather with blue stitching
19" M Double-spoke jet black wheels (ZTK option with 791M)
CF & Alcantara interior trim
CF mirror caps
CF trunklid spoiler
Gloss black splitter
etc.

You're gonna like the black with blue stitching + CF combo I think. Can't wait to see you post pics!

...though, I've never heard of that referred to as the "panda" color combo. It's always been Stormtrooper.

Yeah that's the main thread I remember, and nah I didn't mean wheel numbers in the 400's, and of course agree w/ your sig. (I generally assume 15% loss). My takeaway from the Dyno findings was (and I thought there were several runs, stock and modded) it's cool to say our cars were just over 400's hp/lb.ft. though practically speaking 385 is where it lands at.
