Didn't the last two M3 generations have 6 year runs?

Didn't the last 2 M's have 6 year runs?

2001-2006 (E46)
2007 - 2008 E9X productions starts

2008-2013 (E9X)
2014 - 2015 F8X production starts

Going by that the next M3/4's should start production in Mid 2021 for a 2022 model but there has been news for a 2020 G80 M3. Why are they bringing it out 2 years too early? If we go by the last 2 gen's one would have assumed the below...

2015-2020 (F8X)
2021 - 2022 M3/4 production starts

I was stating the actual model years and not the year they were sold. There was no 2000, 2007 or 2014 cars though they did come out in those years.

I am stating production years. "Model Years" is a North American only marketing gimmick.

So it would be a year early as a 2020 production year for a 2021 model or would it be even earlier?

I think it really depends if BMW wants to further differentiate the M3 and M4. If the M3 carries it's own front-end (not shared with the M4), then it is possible for the G80 M3 to be released before the M4 as a 2021MY (we've already seen G80 prototypes but no G82 M4). If not, then they may well be jointly launched in 2021 as 2022MY. But I seriously doubt we would see an earlier than 2020 launch for the M3.

Thanks. By the way nice CS Didn't notice you switched. Not sure you recall but you extensively helped me out selecting my rear tire size

I agree with everything else you wrote in your post, CanAutM3, but wanted to add one salient point. If we look at the relatively recent G30 and F90 timing and also factor in the even more recent G20 debut, the stage is set for a possible (though far from guaranteed) 2019 SOP for the G80 as MY2020.
