There's a good chance they just rigged those on there because they don't have the quarter panel design complete so they're just using G20 body panels but have to cover the much wider rear track.

Anyone that thinks there's a chance in hell that this muffler, exactly as you see it here won't make it to production has not been paying attention. I'll give you a prediction, it'll make it to production, it'll be just as fugly and there's nothing from now until the cars debut that will change that.

I heard (and the configurator seems to back this up) that the short-range ACC sensor[1] in the Z4 is not were they are usually are but rather invisibly on the right side of the front bumper.

But the G80 would most likely have it at the same place as the G20. Most or all of the early M340i test mules and PR photos did not have an ACC sensor either, so there was also some discussion whether the M340i might not have the option.

[1] BMW is now putting two different ACC sensors into cars, a short-range until 160 km/h and a longe-range (part of the Driving Assistant Professional) until 210 km/h - the Z4 only has the former though.

How do they come up with 500hp? Water injection as in the Gts?... or is the new motorization that much more efficient and/or capable of handling more boost.
Sorry if it has been answered in a prior post.

Remember this is a pre-production mule. They could just mixing and matching parts. BMW has never made the rear muffler that exposed and there's no reason to think they will now based on a test mule. That's just jumping to conclusions. Test mules often have strange things like this, don't worry. Nothings' final yet.

F80 was my last M3. I buy these cars looking for fun in corners. But the M3 has grown to much in weight and size for me.
It is not nice anymore to extract fun in cornering out of it.

M2C has the same obesitas problem. And next to that the M2 has grown also bigger in size. The sweetspot was the 130i and 1M Coupe in size!

BMW does compensate the weight by adding more hp and wider wheels. Then you get a car which is fast and has lots of grip. To extract fun out it you need idiot speeds.

Give me a 1200kg and 300hp rwd and lsd 6 speed manual and not extrem wide tires i tell you that it s more fun in corners then a 1500kg 500hp car. But if you like the straights yes grab 1500 kg pig and give it loads of hp.

If the next m2 is bigger and heavier again i am done buying ///M. Maybe only an x3M as a family car and tow my E30 M3 DTM to the track.
Have to disagree, E46 was the absolute sweet spot, end of discussion. 1M is more of a sweet handling "toy". And YES, I owned the M3 while I drove the 1 a multitude of times.

Alfa's 2.9 V6 has 505hp. With twin turbos, it's not whether they can get 500hp, it's how reliable they can make it at 500hp.

Can’t wait to see you try and spin this one. Perhaps it will somehow relate back to the awesome 2 series minivan...

Sad to see these cars with floating rear calipers. Anyone know why they’re not using fixed anymore?

Yep that's it. It isn't relevant for braking performance but looks really ugly

Is this gonna have the same face as the new 4 Series/M4? If that's the case I expect it to look quite different, the grille could be longer, narrower and vertical as opposed to wide and horizontal and the headlights to also be narrower and quite different in general.

I definitely think the muffler is here to stay. It looks about the same as the M2C.. even the F80 muffler hangs low; the E9x M3, too to some extent.

Unless BMW incorporates some sort of Varis-like undertray, there's nothing really they can do to hide the muffler well, if indeed it'll hang that low.

It's not a deal-breaker by any means... hoping the Pure is good, comes to fruition (and comes in Silverstone or HS ) as I might need to get back into a sedan in the coming years.

What's so funny? Difference is now BMW has been hearing for a bit now about the muffler and seeing the way they changed the new G series should tell you something.
