View Poll Results: How Important is the Manual Gearbox?
Very Important - I will not consider the G80 unless a Manual Gearbox is offered. 134 50.95%
Quite Important - I strongly prefer MT. If not offered, I would strongly consider competitors. 35 13.31%
Somewhat Important - I enjoy driving MT, but am open to DCT or ZF 8AT. 34 12.93%
Not Important/Indifferent - I don't care, 6MT, DCT, ZF 8AT, doesn't matter. 15 5.70%
I don't like Manual Transmissions. 11 4.18%
I think it would be great if BMW still offers a manual transmission for those who want it, but I prefer faster shifts 34 12.93%

I personally would never get an M3 without a Manual. If everyone is so concerned about an auto being faster, and this is one of the reasons why you would buy an auto, there are many ways to fix this issue on an M3 manual
i was going to comment along the same lines. the poll here suggests over 50% would only consider a manual but we must admit that manual lovers are more likely to a) read and b) respond to this poll.

do we have any idea what the overall demand is currently and what were the sales out by geography for 6MT?

i went against all friends recommendations and stuck with the 6MT and could not be happier. when i bought it i said to myself that this would likely be my last MT car (mostly due to likelihood of future availability of sports sedans with the option, but also due to the fact that ATs have surpassed the MT in all features but weight and fun). but now that i have put about 10k kms on it... i really can't imagine giving it up. as much fun as my genesis coupe 6MT was to drive, the lower inertia of the engine/drivetrain in the F80 just make it feel *so* much more refined and sharp.

for the record i likely wouldn't consider the G80 without a manual option. i drive in sport+ all the time because i don't want the rev-matching either. the inability to turn that feature off in the 340i made it a deal breaker.

I'd consider 6MT or 7DCT but I won't touch 8ZF. There isn't really an option for me - I'd be option 2 but only DCT, not 8ZF. I wonder how many people are the same as me?

The only thing that really distinguishes the BMW M3/4 from its main competitors is the availability of a MT. More recent news suggests that it will be an option. I sure hope so. If not, I'll either keep the F80 possibly go old school with a used E90...

I hate to be one of those guys, but I've always bought my M3's new, and with three pedals. If this is automatic only (say all you want, a DCT is an automatic), I'm going elsewhere.

I'm gonna get a lot of shit for this, but I really hate Porsche. If automatics are the only option, I'll prob look into a C63.

I had a 6.2 one before and loved it but the gearbox pissed me off. So I went searching for either a 6MT car or a DCT and really didn't like the F80 soundtrack so ended up with the only DCT + V8 + 4 seater car with a decent level of performance and luxury in the world.

Sometimes I do still think an F80 6MT would be great fun but I just drove a 630km trip twice in the last week in my M6 and I think it is a pretty hard car to beat.

If the G80 comes with a 6MT and Comp Pack I think I'll move to it next. Otherwise it'll have to be an AMG GT and a G31 530d (yes we get them here)

As I said in another post. My m2 competition(manual transmission) is my fun small weekend twisty road car, while my g80(whichever variant) will be my ultra fast, comfortable, ultra aggressive looking, car that can fit three other girls.

Also the reason I sold my C63S coupe AMG was because I missed my manual soooo much. Even though it was such a beast of a car, one of the best steering/handling feeling cars I've ever driven. with the thundering sound of that v8 bi turbo. It had taken me 4 months to get used to the tinny sound of the m3. For the record the m3 is such a vicious sounding engine, that is straight up race car.
