Ordering a custom build for a lease?
Hey Folks,
I was wondering if you can special order a 3 series if you intend to lease? I have around $15k-$20k to put down but I'm looking for a specific build on a the new 3 series 330i or m340i. Thank you in advance! |

I don't see why not? You're probably going to be waiting a while as dealers start getting all their pre-orders and initial allocations in.

So true on that. They don't care as long as they are paid. The only time is if you order something that is out of the norm and then you walk away they will keep your deposit. I have never taken a car off the lot yet as I always order what I want.

Of course. But don't put anywhere near $15k-$20K down on a lease. The goal with a lease should be to put as little down as possible. $0 is the preferred amount.

Absolutely you can custom order for a lease.
Yeah, put the 15-20K in a separate account and use that to reduce your monthly payments by the same amount. If car gets totaled, you could end up losing some of the amount. That being said, I have personally put down some amount (less than 5K) before even though there is some risk involved. After about a year or so depreciation catches up. |

I just negotiated my lease and placed an order this morning. Delivery, hopefully in 6 weeks from Germany. Luckily there was a car on the daily
production line (last one) and I got it! Dealers can see how many if any are available. Otherwise, it would have taken 8 weeks. I received my production number within minutes of signing. I should get actual vin # this week. 330i XDrive w/M Package Portimao Blue Black Interior with Open Pore Grain (matte) Black All-Season Rims Heated Front Seats Live Cockpit Pro (nav included) |

If they can change a car about to go into production you will get priority. If they can't you get the next available slot. A car sold to a customer always gets priority. Don't put down that much money.

Sorry I'm currently basing my down payment on what the BMW USA website tells me. I'm trying to get my payment down to $300-400 a month because I like that as my sweet spot. BMW USA's calculator online said I was looking at about 15k-17k

Yo do realize you will be throwing 15k right out the window correct? If you want a $300 car payment, I suggest saving your money and putting $0 down on a Hyundai then or finance a Used bwm.

You would be much better off keeping your $15k - $17k in a savings account and using it to subsidize your monthly lease payment to bring it down to the $300 - $400 you’re looking for. The problem with making a large down payment on a lease is that a large portion of the down payment is at risk should the car be totaled or stolen. All BMWFS leases have GAP coverage that pays the difference in the lease payoff and the value of the car at the time of loss. If you make a large down payment there will not be a gap between the payoff and the value of the car and you assume the risk of loss. While the odds of experiencing a loss are relatively low, the risk does exist.
