Woodcliff Lake, NJ – March 1, 2019… Sales of BMW brand vehicles increased 0.2 percent in February 2019 for a total of 23,558 compared to 23,508 vehicles sold in February 2018.

“We’re pleased to end February with a slight increase in sales given our current model changeovers,” said Bernhard Kuhnt, president and CEO, BMW of North America. “As we approach spring, we do so with the all-new 3 series on showroom floors and the X7, Z4, and 8 Series Convertible all starting to arrive in March. We are confident that with these new models added to our already exciting product lineup, we are well positioned for success.”

The Spartanburg, SC-built BMW X3 and BMW X5 Sports Activity Vehicles continue to drive sales growth for BMW in the U.S. Taken together, the full range of BMW X models – from the X1 to the X6 – accounted for 55.5% of BMW brand sales in the U.S. in February.

BMW Group Electrified Vehicle Sales

BMW Group sales of electric and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles totaled 1,110 in February 2019, a decrease of 42.7 percent over the 1,936 sold in the same month a year ago. Model changeover has limited the current BMW Group electrified lineup to five models including the BMW i3, BMW i8 and i8 Roadster, BMW 530e, and MINI Countryman plug-in hybrid electric vehicle. Plug-in hybrid variants of the BMW X5, the all-new BMW 3 Series and updated BMW 7 Series will debut at the Geneva International Motor Show next week. These models and a plug-in-hybrid variant of the BMW X3 will begin sales in the U.S. at a future date.

MINI Brand Sales

For February, MINI USA reported 2,679 vehicles sold, a decrease of 12.6 percent from the 3,065 sold in the same month a year ago.

BMW Pre-Owned Vehicles

BMW Certified Pre-Owned sold 8,698 vehicles, a decrease of 9.1 percent from February 2018.
Total BMW Pre-Owned sold 18,647 vehicles, an increase of 4 percent from February 2018.

MINI Pre-Owned Vehicles

MINI Certified Pre-Owned sold 914 vehicles, an increase 6.3 percent from February 2018.
Total MINI Pre-Owned sold 2,181 vehicles, a decrease of 2.8 percent from February 2018.

I am surprised that the old 4 series outsold the 3 series.

The mini Coupe is still sold in NA? If this is the car I think it is, it stopped over a year ago in the UK?

New X3 is leading the way.

No, that’s an error in the report. That line is for Countryman sales - it’s just been mislabeled.

Not sure why BMW classifies the X1 and X2 as passenger cars in contrast to most other car companies lumping similar sub-compact SUVs into the light truck category.

You can get a manual in the coupe, but the Gran Coupe model makes up the bulk of 4 Series sales now. If you look at 4 Series sales from its start of production there has been a steep and sustained increase since it was introduced.

Manual transmissions are not driving sales in any non-high performance vehicle, and even in such vehicles, they are dwindling in popularity. But that discussion is for a different thread.

Vehicle categories are determined by the EPA and NHTSA, not the manufacturers. The line between passenger cars and light trucks has been blurred recently by crossovers, and the GLA, Q3, XC40, etc. are all categorized as passenger cars. If you're interested you can read about it here:

https://www.eia.gov/todayinenergy/detail.php?id=31352

The category doesn't really matter to consumers, who would have no idea what "class" the government puts the X1 in, all they see is a surprisingly spacious compact SUV.

Gotta say, there has been great reception to G20. Journalists love it, and overall reception from people is overwhelmingly positive. IMO, it's the best release since E46. E90 was criticized for its design and relative softness, F30 was criticized for its steering and body roll; G20 doesn't appear to have any 'agreed upon' weak spot at all.

As a CPO buyer, there are deals to be had. You just have to find the right car and inspect it well. Approach a BMW CPO purchase with the same due diligence as you would with any other used car.

Patience pays in the hunt. Have fun at it!

G20 sales recently started and production is ramping up.

The 4 Series was MY 2019 with big inventive money to move product as the MY2020 production starts this month. The 4 Series Coupe and Convertible have another 1+ year of production, and the Gran Coupe has another 2+ years.

My concern is that the 4 coupe goes the way of the 6 coupe. There is a coming day when BMW stops selling coupes in the US...I fear that day.
