Get a 2019 330i xDrive or keep my 2016 M235i xDrive?

Lease is up soon on the M235 coupe. I like the new 3 but there are some things I'm not crazy about (e.g., gauge cluster; larger size). The tech/infotainment is superior in the 3; handling better in the 2. Power of the 3 is more than sufficient. Price for purchasing the 2 seems to be pretty much in line with market value according to online valuations (KBB; Edmunds) - no bargain but not terrible. Any thoughts that might help me sort it out would be appreciated.

Sorry, nothing here to help you decide. I think you can’t go wrong either way, assuming your contracted buyout price is in line with the actual market value.

We have an M235IX and 335i.

Have not test driven the G20 yet and I am sure it exceeds the F30 BUT the 235 is significantly more fun to drive. Even my wife notices the difference.

I am going to test drive the M340 when they become available. If its great, it will sway me to wait for the next gen. 2 series hopefully with 382 hp.

Having one of each in the current generation, the differences and choices seem a bit clearer to me. Do you need a personal for car for just yourself and your significant other, or do you need a family car or for usage with another couple? From driving and living with both side-by-side, the different purposes really make themselves evident for me.

if you don't need the extra space, I guess the m235i works. You're obviously used to the size, but the G20 is way bigger. I've only driven a 228i and it was a lot funner than the 328i I had at the time. That said the F30 was way larger, and having sat in the G20 a few times, the G20 especially the backseat is quite a bit roomier. So it depends on what you intend to use it for.

Not sure how exciting it will be going from a smaller and lighter inline 6 to a larger heavier 4 banger. I would look at 340i if I could

I've driven both so I guess I'll chime in.

If you don't need to extra size or 4 doors of the G20, stay with a M235/240.

I know the the 330 has plenty of power, but the 4 cylinder is boring compared to what you're used to. I can almost guarantee that you'll miss the fun factor of the M235/240 if you switch.

Now if the M340 is on your radar it may be a different story.

Only way I go from a 6 cylinder to a 4 is if they carry my dead body in a 4 cylinder hearse....and even then I will demand a 6 in my will.

mate its all personal preference, but my experience is that the 2 series was too narrow and the suspension was too stiff for a comfortable daily drive. it was a noticeable difference from that to the 3 series to the extent that even the missus noticed it and she doesnt usually give a shlt.

for daily duties, the 4cyl 3 series isnt a crazy performance disparity and youll enjoy finding that its more chuckable into a corner and still enough power to get tail happy. not sure what the adaptive suspension spec is over there (here its standard on 330) but I would probably recommend that if you want to be able to have it feel firmer at times and not at others.

good luck!

Thanks for the replies. I don't have much occasion to carry passengers in the rear seats, so room back there isn't much of a factor. I like the adaptive suspension in the M235, and in the U.S. it's apparently available in the new 3-series only with the MSport package in the 330 or in the M340, neither of which I'm inclined to spring for. As of now I'm leaning toward sticking with the M235. I appreciate the responses.

I'd hold on to the m235. I wouldn't trade in an n55 powered 2 series for a 4 pot 3 series unless I absolutely had to for whatever reason. If increased rear seat space isn't an issue, enjoy your m235i!

The tech in the g20 might have some allure, but in my opinion it won't make the car more rewarding to drive in of itself.

Don't be so dramatic

Came from the N52 sixer to B46 2 liter and couldn't be happier. More power/low end torque and better MPG.

The B58 six turbo is great as long as you dont have to crawl in city traffic at 20MPH as it is often the case around my parts.
