When did vehicle excise duty / car tax last go up? I just had a bill from Alphabet for £95 as they can pass on any charges if VED goes up during the period of lease. That's fair enough, I suppose, but I wasn't aware it had gone up?

It usually increases in April every year

I had the same additional charge.

I looked at the invoice but it doesn’t really give much away.

There was a similar but smaller charge last year. I believe the lease price includes the VED as it was at the time of taking it out. Any difference is charged additionally.

It does yes, and I get that, but surely it didn't go up by £95 in one year?

No, you’re right. It must have gone up £50 this year as there was an additional charge of £45 last year.

Tax this year is £180 + £390.
