No. It's louder obviously if you are cruising in Sport or Sport Plus, but in Comfort it's pretty normal.

Finally today had the mperformance exhaust installed for my birthday coming up!!
First impressions are very positive coming from a stock exhaust, also wayyyyy louder then previous Mperformance one installed on my2015 335.

The dippest and hungry sound makes you smile from the first time the car goes on, be ready for angry loud Starts then goes quite .
Didn’t choose to go with the Dinan or wait for AWE just to keep the oem look , also not a big fan of a quad exhaust on a 3 series .

Overall I’m very happy with the purchase specially when you hit that sport button to wake up the beast lol . In sport plus will just show her best!
So glad that I didn’t wait longer I Got to say that this was a hell of an upgrade

DIY Install MPE

DYI'ed the install of the MPE on my M340 today, took less than two hours after getting the car off the ground. Hardest part was committing to cutting the factory exhaust. There are punch marks at the cut location, double and triple checked against the BMW instructions and used the Dinan instructions (better than BMW) checked measuring the MPE mount locations. Big improvement over the stock exhaust IMO, sounds a lot like my wife's 335is at startup.

Not a difficult job and saved the time and expense of shop install.

I currently have a C43 and waiting for delivery on a my21 m340i. From test driving the M340i the c43 is defiantly louder but it was also fitted with the AMG performance exhaust (not a fair comparison) even if I compare to a C450 without the AMG performance exhaust the c450 was louder as well. My order has the MPE installed at the port so once I take delivery and break the car in I’ll give my opinion.

On a side note I saw a video from kiesmotorsports where they dyno a m340i with a stock exhaust then with a AWE exhaust and did 3 runs each and they found that with the AWE exhaust alone they gained 12 hp & 9lbs of torque to the wheels. Interesting from just an exhaust. My question is if anyone can confirm if the MPE adds power as well.

The MPE won't give any gains, it's just a muffler replacement basically. I am in love with the sound though.

I have a MPE installed for about 3 months. It has changed my car experience for the better. My exhaust sounds even better now and is super load !

It is like the C43 when the M340i is in Sport Plus
..otherwise it's louder (maybe 30-40% louder than stock) in all other modes. Comfort is still very quiet which is what I wanted. Cold starts are REALLY loud no matter what mode.

I also heard from other people with the MPE in comfort of you rev the car pass 3500 rpm it gets pretty loud and you get some very light burbles. Which I agree when I’m doing spirited driving I want the drama and theatrics, but when I’m cruising I wouldn’t want a loud exhaust where I can’t even enjoy my music. your like the 7th person with the MPE that confirms that in comfort it’s still rather tamed. Im so excited 😬

Definitely tame (to the point that my wife doesn't know I have an exhaust) when in comfort. Again the only give away is the cold starts that are loud regardless but they quiet down quickly. Honestly this exhaust is made for people who want an upgraded exhaust but mostly for when they're driving in Sport Plus. That's when it pops and burbles like crazy and every gear it hits through is with authority. Not so much in the other drive modes.

thanks for the reply, i always drive in sport+ so i guess ill be happy.. IMO it need more sound!! already have some grunt on upshift and a tons of burble on downshift and iddle rev but not enough loud.. was looking for muffler delete but i guess everyone seem happy with that MPE tough it is expensive for a muffler only at 2000$ wish it was titanium

so i guess ill pull the trigger on it.. you sold me when you said sport+ is like c43 !!!!

It's a single piece. It won't fit in your trunk but if you take it out of the box you can get it in with the backseats folded down.

I am looking for videos of MPE on 2021. There is one I found with a guy driving up and down a city street. That sounds awesome - but if anyone with a 21 can show a video to us here to be able to check out the sound it would be greatly appreciated.

It doesn't sound that drastically different than OEM to me. Definitely not $2000 with of difference. That's a lot of money for sound and no gains

Yeah that doesn't sound much different than stock. I was considering ordering the AWE Track this week and saw the MPE. MPE sorta disappoints on the 21 M340 in that video

It's just a muffler, it can only do so much. With that said it sounds noticeably louder and throatier to me. If the MPE sounded like this on my car I would get one for sure.

It shouldn't cost $2000

This is ridiculous, I understand the benefit of the MPE but if it doesn't greatly change the sound of the exhaust it's not worth 2K given the price of the car already. There has to be some accountability on BMW's part for changing the note so drastically for MY21.

I love how everyone just says "well, let me drop another 2K on an MPE for my 65K car" instead of mobilizing and bringing this to corporate's attention. Can I be invited to your yacht parties?

It's crazy that a stock exhaust on a 2020 sounds better than a 2021 with MPE (to my ears). The 2020 with MPE is the absolute sweet spot...it's even better sounding than an already amazing sounding stock exhaust!

I second that! My 2020 before I installed the MPE sounded way better I hate to say. Now with the MPE....perfecto!
