From time to time

Sport mode for me is nice for on ramps, and taking off from stop signs, usually I’m in eco on the highway and comfort throughout the city.

Sport Individual, with engine in sport +, and everything else in sport, happy medium for residential neighborhoods and driving around town, freeways = sport +

Sport + when I'm starving.
Comfort when I'm full.
Never ECO, i find ECO is dangerous if you actually need to speed up to avoid accident.

I've gotten into the habit of moving the shifter into S mode immediately upon leaving my driveway (leaving the car in Comfort mode), mostly because it also turns auto stop-start to off.

If my trip is more than a quick errand, I will usually press the Adaptive button, as this is the mode with the best overall feel when combined with sport transmission, IMHO.

I always remote-start the car and temperature gauge is usually at optimal before the car leaves my garage. Does the increased holding of lower gears from sport transmission mode cause more wear and tear on the drive train?

Hi,

Early on, I coded my car to start in EcoPro, which makes the somewhat sluggish in terms of acceleration & switched to Sport Individual on winding roads & highway entry ramps. Thanks to a post by Tam the Bam, I re-coded car to start in adaptive mode, which I have found to be just as efficient (if not more so) as EcoPro, but much more responsive--with or without a destination in Nav system. I still switch to Sport Individual on winding Roads-- too much fun not to.

BTW, to dispel misconceptions about adaptive mode, please see this video:

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the video; it's interesting and I had not seen it, but for me it creates new questions without answers. For example I didn't realize any aspect of Adaptive mode shared any aspect of Eco Pro mode -- one feels nothing like the other to me.

Does anyone know what aspects of the Eco Pro configuration (as the video states) are shared with Adaptive mode?

Also, why would Comfort mode have a more linear throttle response than Sport mode?

I drive in Eco individual most of the time and Sport + when passing or when I'm having some fun.

I can not stand the steering in comfort. So that means Adaptive is also out. I told BMW, in feed a back discussion, that I would use the Adaptive function if the steering could be individualized in to sport. Too many years driving an E90 to use the comfort steering(it is "Toyota Camry" annoying to me). IMHO, the steering needs to be heavier in Sport.
Cheers!

I tend to keep it in Sport. I regularly commute from NY to Boston and mileage is still >30 mpg in Sport which is fine with me. I'm just not a huge fan of the Sport steering, a little too taut for me, so I keep that in comfort.

When I used to drive to work, I'd commute in comfort. All other driving was in sport. Now all driving is in sport.

Someday. I haven’t put it in sport yet, respecting the break-in period. Currently at 300-something miles.

M340i is an amazing DD in Comfort.

Not sure if posted already, but if you Say: Hey BMW!
And when prompted: I'M Bored.
Car will switch Center Display to Sport Display, and say: Have you tried our Spot mode yet?

Pretty cool party trick

Going to get a bit of hate, I suspect but I actually drive in Eco Mode in my M340i a lot. I tend to drive average speed camera roads a lot so little point wasting fuel. Also spend a lot of time in slow traffic unable to overtake due to the roads.

On-ramps onto motorways etc and I’m Sports Plus mode.

I’m trying out Adaptive mode to see if I get a bit of everything. Certainly sounds better and is better off the line.

Sometimes, If I'm just getting gas, or when I'm picking up a coffee.

I rarely drive in comfort.

I coded (bimmercode) my car to start and stay in sport+ individual and that's where it stays UNLESS I want to be stealthy and then I hit the comfort button.

But I'm tuned by Mission (non burble) so there is a big part of me that likes being stealthy with over 510hp crank on tap :-)...I just grin at the G series infinitis and the like as they buzz by me

ps- but that's not 100% of the time....every once in a while I do like to surprise people ;-)

I'm struggling a bit on which mode I want on as default. My previous car was a Mini Cooper Clubman S with a 6 speed. The car was programmed to start in sport all of it's life because I loved everything about it (adaptive suspension, steering, sound).

When I got my 330, I immediately programmed Sport+ and Comfort+ and set the car to start in sport mode but I don't think I'm sold on this. With the Mini being a manual I could control how long it held a gear but I'm not sure I like how the automatic is doing this especially around my neighborhood, in parking lots, etc.

I'm thinking about switching it to default to comfort+.

Just use Sport Individual with transmission in Sport mode - not Sport Plus.
