Heatshield mod?

Anyone done anything to make it black? I am considering paiting it maybe

Wouldn’t black make it absorb heat, whereas shiny silver reflects it?

That was what I was thinking? I'm sure there's a reason that BMW leave them silver coloured, seem to remember previous BMWs I've owned were silver coloured as well?

I can’t imagine it makes a huge difference if you sprayed it black.

There is enough black plastic around it that would be far less efficient at heat disputation.

It’s probably silver purely down to cost purposes.

Or the metal clips for the routing of the bonnet catches release cable are considered more robust than plastic ones would be?

I pulled mine out and painted it black with a spray can. Used Eastwood under hood black low gloss. Pretty close match to oem black painted parts

Likewise, I sprayed mine - it's not a heat shield, it's just a cover plate. I used Holts Tough Black after coating with acid etch primer, it's a good match for factory and seems to be holding up well. Pic on this thread.
