How do you close the hood?

Im unable to close the hood in one step. I need to make it in two steps:
1.- Let it down from 30/40 cms. Engages a bit, burt not totally (like when you push one time to open it)
2.- Comoletely close it pushing on both sides at the same time.
User manual said that must be done in one step, but doing so hood stays open.

Do not push the hood it as it may bend.
You need to find the proper height to drop it, most likely it will be more than 40cm.

I was just in for service - my new 2021, wouldn't close all the way on the passenger side, leaving a 1in gap - since I also did not want to bend the hood I brought it in...

the tech had to make a minor adjustment to one of the springs, but more importantly he told me that the bmw emblem is meant to be pressed on

so drop the hood gently until it stops... then to close all the way press with the palm of your hand on the bmw emblem - that has worked for me since.

I drop it from above 50 cm. Around 30 it doesn't lock properly and I have to push down which doesn't always work.

You have slam it down (or close "energetically" per the manual). It's much lighter than the F30 hood so just letting it drop won't work and pushing it into place once it's nearly closed may dent the hood.

^ Do not push, especially on the sides. It's designed to be slammed. Just unlatch it and try to slam it again if it doesn't close properly.

I thought it was stuck/defective at first, too. Seems like it's the same on all G generation cars (same on 2 X5s I tried).

After picking up my new M340i at the Performance Center last Dec. we drove to Asheville for a few days. As we're getting ready to leave for home the valet brings my 3 day old car around and one side of the hood isn't latched. Upon further inspection there is a slight dent. Turns out the valets at the hotel wanted to check out the engine and couldn't get the hood closed (they were reprimanded and the hotel paid for the PDR). Moral of the story is close the hood by letting it drop, not pushing on it.

I gently "drop it like its hot" from the top position, all the way up. Not slamming it mind you, but because of the height, just a gently push down is enough to lock it up nicely.

Dropping doesn't cut it. The hood weighs nothing. You have to put some effort behind it.
