So in theory (as connected drive suggests) I have Apple CarPlay preparation for a year.

But I cannot seem to get CarPlay on the car's system, 2 x iPhones connect via Bluetooth and play music OK - any ideas / tips?

Should have read the manual !

and not rely on the youngster to sort it !

first iPhone not connects via CarPlay.

deleted 'old' device, made sure carPlay was on phone, installed as CarPlay device and followed a few prompts and now it works!

I read that Apple doesn't charge any royalty or licensing fees to BMW. So the fact that BMW is going to charge their customers for this is comical.

annoyingly I get 12 months usage and then have to pay for it.... if your right, then this is not the best way to keep customers happy !

Apple CarPlay is $80 a yr after 1 yr trial but you can opt to pay for 20 years for $300. So technically it should only cost $300 nothing more. One thing I’m not sure is whether 20 yr subscription is attached to your car or ConnectedDrive account. Because you do have to buy it through ConnectedDrive service so I assume if you buy another car you still have CarPlay for free once you sign in to your account.
