I’ve done the same. When washing the car i use the key card and leave the fob inside. Then I have complete control of lock state.

Not being able to move car with door ajar. Often need to make small adjustments when parking in garage.

The Setup button and menu vs. individual buttons is my only real enduring annoyance. Mostly for the suspension modes when driving a route with varying road qualities.

What blue bar are you referring to? I don't think I've ever seen anything like that on my HUD. Do you have a picture (if it's possible)?

I think he is talking about this blue bar in the ID8 HUD (first pic). Can’t find a way to get rid of it either. In Sport mode, the bar is gone. Reduced mode only changes the thickness of the tach as far as I know…

I second this, I didn't really notice it that much during the day, but at night it seems kind of obstructive defeating the point of a HUD.

2 biggest annoyances for me both introduced by idrive 8, moving from idrive 7.

m1/m2 settings which require confirmation due to MDM/TC-OFF now forces a 2 second delay between clicks, can no longer just double-click the button.

Zero text message preview in motion, not even the 1st line, just says "new message" now. Trying to increase safety but actually causes more distraction.

It’s disastrous at night

You can switch it to sport as shown in pic but can’t permanently switch it. You have to go to sport M mode every time, and that also disables some safety features. Don’t care for it too much, but just annoying to have to switch to sport M mode every time and the instrument cluster arrangement switches to a less useful one when in sport M mode.

I don’t know why the engineers at BMW decided that this is the exact combo everyone wants. They are all already there, I wish they let us pick any combo in any mode.

Radio on after I open a door is the one of mjne too. Everything else I’ve been able to either disable or fine tune to a point where I can bare living with them (steering interventions, proximity locks)

That is terrible. I would lower it all the way down to almost out of my vision.

I have my radio settings changed to where it will shut off when I open my door (assuming the car is already off). You can bypass this setting when you want by opening the door before you turn off the car too! Its like having both options on demand. I dont know what setting it is since I changed this a year ago but I hate having my radio running when I turn off the car. This is a BMW feature that goes back to the e92s as far as I know. It was a major item I noticed going from an Audi to a 340i then a 540i, and the M.

iDrive 8/7 annoyances:

* I have to turn off automatic climate before turning off the climate completely. Idrive 7 I could just press the down fan button until it was off.
* Changing M-mode requires pressing the m-mode button, then selecting what you want on the touchscreen or with the scrollwheel. Idrive 7 you could just press the m-mode button repeatedly and it'd cycle modes.
* Lack of graphical options with the cluster display, and the overall look/design of the displays. A wish would be if BMW opened up whatever API controls the cluster graphics, people could come up with some amazing stuff.

For those with iD8 HUD annoyances, I found turning the brightness down all the way really made the HUD a lot better. I found it terrible before but now I love it.

Agree with a lot of the points stated thus far. Mine is maybe unique to the car and something I need to raise with the dealership but has anyone else noticed that when turning up the A/C fan speed to max and lowering the temp to LO, the fans shut off and restart every 5-10 mins? Weirdest thing... it's like it can't run them for that long and has to restart a cycle or something.

I don't use the A/C often, but when I do, it's extremely annoying that the A/C will shut itself off and re-spool up the fans a few times over the course of a 20 minute drive.

Why would you leave the car running if you're not in it?

I didn't realize that this changed (with the required pause) in ID8. That sucks for you guys.

This is really the only gripe that I have against the car.

I've mentioned this to the dealer several times. It is annoying, especially if you've coded options that often have to be redone.

But now, please, permit me to put on my old man hat.

My first car had absolutely none of these issues.

It also had crank windows. We used keys to unlock the car and to start the car. Different keys, actually. The infotainment system consisted of an AM radio with one speaker. There was no BT because there was nothing like a cell phone. Heck, we didn't even have wireless phones in the house.

There were no personalization options beyond moving the manually adjusted seat fore and aft. That was all. No up, down, lumbar, side bolsters, head restraint, nothing.

That helps me (it probably ain't doin' nuttin' for you) put these slight annoyances into proper perspective.
