True. Very good point. Damn shame too! I actually like the new Infinitis and of course the GT-R.

The BMW of yesterday with hoffmeister kink, angel eyes etc. is just that. The BMW of 'Yesterday'. People like yourself have a very hard time moving on from that.

Half these threads are people moaning about the design. It's not going to change and the moaning won't make BMW change their vision or pull the launch to rework the design.

The majority of potential customers don't frequent these boards or forums. They will buy anything BMW puts a badge on so you 'boycotting' a new M3 makes no difference. There will be thousands more lining up to buy one on launch day.
As a long BMW owner and knowing how things used to be be built design and quality wise, that's how I feel.

I do not live in the past; I live in the present. Otherwise I will still own an E36.
Everything changes, In good or in bad; but that doesn't mean I need to embrace mediocrity or ugliness.
The BMW of yesterday is what should flow in the new design. Because an excellent designer has the ability to bring evolution while maintain a specific and original -hard earned- DNA.
Now, we have just a mix of deformed inspiration cues taken from everyone that defines nothing. This team literally throws all BMW DNA in the garbage.

The fact that I am looking at the RS6 shows that I don't have a hard time to move from anything; I am just a fan, so I am more hurt by what they "managed" to do with this brand.

BMW will change. Same discussions took place in the past and BMW felt it and changed its direction. Time will tell. If they don't, it's ok with me, I will take my money elsewhere and good luck to BMW!

And please, an opinion is an opinion not a moaning. Everyone is entitled to one; I respect yours, so please, respect mine.

So far, what I can hear ("it's ugly", "looks like a pig", "it's scary", "looks deformed", "ewww") comes from non-enthusiast people that are not on these forums. So, nope, they will not buy "anything" BMW puts a badge on.

Please, do not forget to bring in here the sales number on the launch day; I really want to see that thousands number!

I'm with you guys. it's strange, that's for sure, but we have to see the final product for the final verdict.

For now, we have at least two months to digest the new design. We are used to see orizontal kidneys, a vertical one is something new we haven't seen before on a modern BMW. It's what happened to Audi back in 2004, when they presented the first single frame grille into the A6. In the beginning, a lot of haters....then.....we know how the story went on.

Another focus is to ask ourselves: "what offers the market now in the same category?" The only alternative, IMHO, is the Alfa Giulia Q/GTA, and I personally don't agree with who says that has a lot of problems, because also my M140i had problems with both the radiotors and gas pedal, and before it, the 120d, and also the MINI cooper S R53 had a total engine failure. BUt even this, I don't consider them cars with problems, because are although cars I liked a lot. I've got a friend with a Giulia Q that comes from a BMW M3 F80 and he is really really happy with it.
So, In case you don't like it, I've got the alternative, but as I'm passioned about BMW, things are difficult. Let's see in person, with the colour everyone of us like, without camo etc. Then we will judge, and maybe, we will all buy it, who knows?

To me, it's strange, yes....probably I would have preferred a 8er insipred grille, or maybe, a G20 fron end, headlight included which I like a lot, but what we see is what we will get. Let's wait for now, they shocked us, we need time. Wait and see.

Finally BMW makes a front end that is worthy of putting a giant US license plate on it! I'll affix 3 of them and call it good and enjoy the performance.

I might be biased but i think the m2 looks quite aggressive for such a small car. I think there are even M2 bumper looking kits for the F 3 series cars (saw on youtube).

Lol well I definitely feel the car will at least need alignment to make it better.

Turbo s or the gt2 rsmr is way out of my league.

Nissan GT-R could be an option but then I really dislike the jdm thing. But the gtr does not feel jdm and is a whole new beast.

Anyhow they got the designs from a sinus ct scan as the jdm cars are inspired by fish.

Germans thought let's me more mystery of the maxillary sinuses. Maybe one will be fluid filled like the radar on the left grill. Lol

Personally I flip flop between till I see it. The one series big grill looks amazing and I cannot wait to see the m3 w the Chrysler 300c diamond grill. It would be pure boss.

So what history are we talking about anyway?
Technical there is little history, design-wise the history is thrown in the garbage.

If I want history, I buy a late 1950 BMW 507, a E9 3.0 CSI, an E30 M3, or a very old model. That is history.

Otherwise, lots have history but don't shine today.
Exactly this!!

It's funny how others are talking about history when they see the long kidneys, but forget that every other iconic / history thing has disappeared...for me there is no history if you poorly incorporate a tall grille, but throw everything else away

In my opinion the problem is not the grille at thi point, is the shape of the snorkel be side it.

I made a fast PS of a different kind of it, that takes inspiration from the M2. In my opinion, the result is much better. It gives a good value to the grille itself, and makes the front even more dynamic and aggressive.

what do you think?

Beside the discussion regarding the big grille and which car looks better in general, I can't say that the F80 (at least the camouflaged version) looked that much more agressive.

LCI will come out quicker than usual and there will be a bunch of first year buyers regretting they jumped too early. For the F8x everyone says they dynamically improved year on year though looks were good out of the gate. It looks like the other way around this time. How hard can it be?

  • get thousands of people to spend over $70,000 of their hard earned cash
  • get many more thousands of people including adults and kids to want it, buy posters of it, like it on social media, etc.
  • get reviewers/critics to rave about it
  • excite and keep people talking about it for over half a decade
  • be faster and more fuel efficient than its predecessor
  • be more comfortable than it’s predecessor
  • be at least as engaging to drive as it’s predecessor
  • have better, easier to use tech than it’s predecessor
  • be safer than its predecessor
  • not be too similar to its predecessor
  • be differentiated from its competitors and beat them in head-to-heads without knowing what the competitors will be like
  • not be too different from its predecessor to avoid inflaming the loyalists/early adopters
  • maintain some core ethos of what makes an M car an M car
  • not be too much heavier than it’s predecessor

Yeah I think it’s pretty hard and I think they have consistently done it quite well historically so why don’t we trust them a bit to deliver again
