Looking at an in stock M340 at a local dealer and it doesn't the Premium package so no HUD. It does have heated seats and the heated wheel as an option so I'd only be missing out on the HUD.
Is the HUD a must have? If the car didn't have the live cockpit I'd say yes but just wanted to get everyone else's thoughts. Thanks! EDIT: Other dealer got back to me about the car I originally wanted which includes HUD so consider this post null and void! Keeping it up for other people to see though |

It's just another one of those things that once you have it you will never want to not have it again.

I have it... first time.
It is good but with the live cockpit it is possible to live without it. As said, if you like all the toys, it’s good to have and probably safer. Really comes down to cost/availability

Not at this point, CarPlay received such a feature very recently only, it remains to be seen if BMW adapts it. |

I don't think it's a must have especially with the live cockpit but like the others said, once you have it you will never get another car without it.
Before I got my first car with HUD I thought it'll be a gimmick and distracting but I quickly realized how great it is. Being able to always see your speed saved me from a couple of speeding tickets on long trips. Also seeing your media info and navigation without looking down is great.

I have hud in my g20 but have a g20 loaner without hud at the moment. Now, I notice how nice/handy it is to have your eyes on the road al the time.
I think especially with the live cockpit, the hud is needed. There is a lot of information in the cockpit and the hud shows the high needs. Especially on busy/fast roads the cockpit can have to much info. Although this is also just a case of getting used to it off course.

Got some good news, the dealer that I was originally working with on an in stock build that includes Premium has gotten back to me. Looks like I no longer need to decide!
Thanks all, looking forward to the HUD |

I've never had HUD in any of my previous cars and I always figured it's something I could live without and I'd hardly use it. Now that I have it in my G20 I find myself always using it and would never want to go back to not having it.

I have two requirements for any future purchase: a HUD and adaptive cruise control. IMHO there is a huge difference between glancing down at your control display and seeing the same info through the windshield.
But...everyone is different and my priorities aren't necessarily yours. I have seen some posts where folks complain that they find the HUD distracting. So, as always, different strokes for different folks. |

CarPlay does not extend to HUD/live cockpit. Can tell you what’s playing in CarPlay (like the song/track) but Waze, google maps etc don’t work in HUD or live cockpit. You can still use bmw nav with HUD while you’re audio is from CarPlay, though (which is what I do).
