HUD was the 1st thing that wife turned off on the F10 and on the G20 we have one of the programable buttons to turn it off. I don't mind it but it is definitely not a "must have"

Way back in the day, I had a Pontiac Grand Prix GTP that had HUD before Germans even dreamt about offering it. I survived just fine without HUD many years after.

If it was a stand alone option, I definitely wouldn't of checked the box.

It is a very good and feature-rich HUD. I will use it during the day, but at night I find it distracting as this rectangle lit box is in front of my eyes. So I shut it off at night

I absolutely love the HUD. When I was shopping for my car I pretty much ignored any car that did not have it.

You are right. I drove the Model 3 Performance and absolutely loved the acceleration and high tech features. I hated the interior, particularly that big monitor. If it would have had a HUD and leather seats I would be driving it today.

I have it on my G20 and our Audi. I could give it up in both cars and not really notice. Now if they put the transmission gear number in there, that I would use. I think I that's only on M cars though.

I don't recall seeing it on the m cars I'll have to look next time I drive one.

It's there when you have the M button program otherwise the gear indicator would be on the dash.

HUD in older BMWs was just OK. Can't compare it to the latest ones. My previous Genesis had a much better HUD than Fxx BMWs.

Now in newer models like the G01 X3, it's great. And in the newest ones like the G20 3-Series, it's phenomenal. Big different between our X3 and 3 in HUD performance and capabilities.

Is the HUD a must have? If the car didn't have the live cockpit I'd say yes but just wanted to get everyone else's thoughts. Thanks!

EDIT: Other dealer got back to me about the car I originally wanted which includes HUD so consider this post null and void! Keeping it up for other people to see though
I don’t think I’d ever buy a car without it now. When it first came out I thought it was a gimmick. I bought my wife’s 535 and liked it immediately. Keeps your eyes on the road, only thing I don’t think it shows is fuel level. Everything else shows up directions, phone call, radio information.

Not for me. If you use polarized Sunglasses then it's pointless.

My Audi was like this as well (haven't taken delivery of the M340i yet to know if polarized lenses wash this one out as well - I suspect it does). In any case, I still love the HUD on my S5. Great at night, and it gave me an excuse to buy a second pair of sunglasses just not polarized this time.

I decided to try HUD on my last car, a 2014 328. Everyone told me that it would be a distraction. Well, I adjusted it so that the display was visible just above the car's hood and it was anything BUT a distraction.

I like it so much that I have on my 2020 M340 and have found it to be extremely useful, particularly on long trips when using the Nav system -- though, being a little icon challenged, it did take a little to get used to the symbols.

Bottom line: I really like it!

So what? You spend how many thousands of dollars on a BMW and don't want to spend another $50-$150 on tinted but not polarized sun glasses? It works great with non polarized sun glasses (I use tinted RX progressives and it works great for them as well).

My gawd...heated seats are pointless if you own a winter coat.

I need to use polarized for migraines so it would be a pointless feature for me to spec. I'm happy just looking down 10cm to the instrument cluster.

This is definitely needed on the Tesla model 3 as you have to look down and to the right which means taking your eyes completely off the road. Would be nice if the posted speed limit indicator was on the HUD along with current speed as well as factory radar detector. Though I've seen the speed limit indicator give the wrong speed at times like giving the speed in a school zone for when children are present even when no children are present or giving the speed for adjacent roads.

For what it's worth, the HUD in the new Navigator and Aviator looks just as good through polarized glasses as it does traditional ones. If Ford can pull that off, why can't BMW?

This is the first car I have owned with it and I think its great. Good info whilst driving and I do like being able to change tracks and see album art in the HUD

I love the HUD on my F32, but wish it displayed the tach. The G2x has a tach display, but it's a wimpy little line, not the more robust display of M cars. Hope it's upgraded (and BMW

My F32 displays the speed limit. What's the factory radar detector? Do you mean active cruise control? I have a hardwired Beltronics STiR+ with a remote sensor. It's saved me from many speeding tickets.

No I made that up there is no factory radar detector but it would be cool if something like that displayed on the HUD. I did notice that yes the speed limit is on the HUD
