The lci always a notch better, i would rank it F30-E90-G20 not that F30 is bad but its not as solid as E90 and G20. But e46 and E90 had multipe other quality issues. E46 subframe is a joke, and shitty cooling systems. E90 had unreliable engines n53, n54, n47 has major designflaws.

Ahh the old F30 interiors are crap discussion.
I like my F30 interior as well. Much more than the E90. Is it as nice as the interior in my GS350 F Sport, NO. But I think it's the right amount of luxury and functionality. Besides, I bought my F30 for the driving aspects, not luxurious interior quality. Oh no... I've opened another can of worms. |

F30 >>>>> E90. E90 interiors were , atrocious design, nothing interesting about them at all. G20 one ups both. No idea where the E90 lover is coming from, they weren't that great of cars, ESPECIALLY from a design standpoint. E90 even broke the classic BMW design cue of the driver slanted dash, which is an atrocity in my book. Thankfully brought back in F30

Having owned both an E90 and F30 (now back to an E93), the F30 is definitely a downgrade from a materials standpoint. You can tell when removing trim how the mount points are molded and holes drilled. Lots of cheap hard plastic too. I will say that the F30 is definitely a newer style, but when it comes to leather, vinyl, and seats the E90 generation has the F30 beaten by a lot.
Now, I drove a G20 M340 yesterday and it brought be back to my E46 days in terms of handling/responsiveness. The interior is by far the best they've ever had in a 3 series. I drove my 03 E39 540 there too (which has the best built BMW interior IMO) and can say the G20 is not slacking at all. I almost bought the car on the spot, but I really need a manual. Holding out for the next M3/4 (which I have new insights on).

Here we see an owner with the E39 (540i) benchmark interior, favourably commenting on the G20. We read other posters saying the build (interior quality) of the G20 is less than the F30. So where are we? Why these contradictions? |

I preferred the G20 interior over the M850i interior, which felt cavernous. Granted I didn't try to touch every surface but G20 was nice enough for me not to care. The new leather feels way nicer than Dakota leather. |

Coming from a Jaguar XJ I must agree that Dakota leather is somewhat utilitarian. It reminds me of the leather in my 2001 Tahoe. That said, the sports seats are very comfortable.
I don't quite get why there is so much hate for the F30 interior design. I would agree that the quality of the materials and the feel of some parts is a bit of a let down. Still, it's not down to first gen XE levels, or that hideous silver plastic looking lump Mercedes put in the middle of so many of their cars a few years ago. Think Amstrad, my UK readers. |

It's a night and day difference after sitting in anything before a F30. The F generation of cars was just a bad generation for BMW.

And you can back up your posts with "well EVERYONE thinks the F30 was a bad BMW" but the fact is, I love mine and I'm pretty sure other F30 owners love theirs....As do E90 owners love theirs....And so on. |

I'm curious, what's the back story "i lived and breathed etc...." looking at your signature should I assume that you work at BMW of Fairfax? But you drive an Audi (love Audi's I've owned 10 and one saved my life in a terrible accident) - maybe you sell BMW's but were not/are not a fan of the F30? I'm just curious what your point of reference is Thanks **edit** my comment went back and made me count 14 Audi's :-) (two 4000s, one 4000csq, UR, 80,90, four a4's, two S4's, A6, and 2.7 AllRoad - still think I'm forgetting one or two Last edited by itsglen; 06-13-2019 at 08:15 PM.. |

The biggest reason I went and got an Audi was because of how cheap the F30 had become. It looked cheap and it felt cheap. The S5 felt solid all around. Excited to drive a G20 and see BMW go back to being BMW.

ps- what Audi forum do you frequent - what's the best in your opinion these days....I started at A4.org (am I dating myself) which is long long gone HA. I think I'm neck and neck with glen for Audi ownership numbers - that said while I helped my Son get his first BMW I'm thinking TT for my Daughter |

Well I love my F30 far more than my E92. Sorry you had issues with yours. My brother has a 2010 S5 that is still going strong so enjoy yours. I just don't love AWD either so Audi is a no go for me.
