Ugly as hell. I’m jealous of the new technology but goddamn the grilles are so horrendously ugly that I’m thankful BMW still makes the F82.

Looks like a giant ball sack/ scrotrum

It looked too much like a "concept car". The overall shape was ok but little things like lights, mirrors and air vents are to aggressive for production 4 series. Let's not forget that basic 4 series have to look at least a little bit classy so we will see more subtle version. I'm glad that perfect back window line is still here. Back side will probably look like mixture of lowered X4 and new 3 series. I actually dig the X7 M performance look, so I hope that they will also be able to nail the front bumper despite the big grill.

100% agree. It's like they took it to far by trying to stand out this time. I know they're feeling pressure for losing sales to Tesla so maybe they think this will help mitigate that?

Well, its a coupe and not an SUV so I doubt it will be a sales success regardless of the grill. Everyone wants an X3/4 over the 3/4 now, hopefully the SUV-apocalypse will eventually end.

Maybe it'll grow on me. I always loved the 2002 tii and the F32 may have looked odd 40 years ago.

He's saying relative to previous cars. We're all pretty aware of the tendency towards SUV's/SAV's.

Oh I understand, but even still if the car is better and the people like the looks it still won't sell better because of current market preferences.

They could mount it on tow hook like Alfa.
The concept looks like it has some sort of clear plastic band where the plate would go. It would probably be easy to attach a plate with neodymium magnets.

I currently have magnets inside the bumper shell on my F32, with a corresponding soft rubber magnet on the back of my front license plate. The plate goes on and off in seconds and has held for thousands of freeway miles.

Not much to see because I didn't take pix while I was doing it... and the magnets are hidden inside the bumper shell.

I got three 1.5 inch magnets from Amazon and held them in place with duct tape while I was test fitting. After I was sure it worked, I glued them in place with JB Weld Putty.

And this is the rubberized magnet that I put on the back of the license plate.

With three magnets, it centers itself on the front bumper shell. The magnets hold pretty firmly, but a preschool kid could probably remove it.

Don't know if this helps but one of the design prototypes used a Japanese plate which is much taller than a US plate and it seemed to work.

I remembered a little more about the process...

I centered the rubberized magnet on the outside of the bumper shell, then used painter's tape to hold it in place. That made it easy to find the right location for the neodymium magnets on the inside of the bumper shell and keep them there while I attached them.

Yeah, but Audi buyers are a totally different market - if Audi buyers cared about looks they would've bought BMWs ... well I guess that tells us where BMW is going to find customers for The Beaver4

I believe that the buyer shopping a BMW is also shopping Mercedes, Audi, Lexus and Infiniti. There's not much distinction between buyers.

eh, i dunno about that, they may shop but it's what they buy - i work for an international company and the minute someone tells me they're a car guy I can tell you the car they drive:

* Purple socks? Benz.

* Practical loafers? Lexus.

* Business casual but with cuff links? Infiniti.

* Human dial tone? Audi.

* First one to mention happy hour? BMW.

Totally serious - It's known and I get challenged all of the time, in 15 years I've never been wrong.

Lol! I cracked up at that post.

In all seriousness, every car buyer considering something premium has shopped AT LEAST two brands off of that list when looking for cars. We see it here too. Statements like, "I test drove the Audi, but.....", or "My G37 was a good car, but boring, so I opted to buy a BMW.".....and so forth. Or just take a look at the thread(s) where everybody lists what cars they currently own or have owned.
