330d fuel economy?

Hi,

I own 330i and I am not to thrilled about fuel economy, it goes around 12-13L/100km driving short relations inside city only. I was wondering any 330d owners to share their experience?

Hi, Croatian fellow!

You probably live in Zagreb, with big traffic jams. My avg is around 9 l / 100 km, but I live in eastern part of the country where traffic jams are not as big. On longer trips it falls down to 7 l / 100 km. It also seems that longer I have the car, it has lower consumption...

I am from Split and I really don't have jams. It's just the configuration of the city with many inclines and combination of short distances. My previous BMW 320d E90 engine had up to 9.5L/100 with same type of driving. Just curious how is 330d doing since when I was about to make the purchase I had dilemma between these two and wanted to go petrol this time since 4cyl engine has decent performance.

Should have taken the 320d. Average at 5.1ltr/100km with daily work commute incl. traffic jams and weekend local trips.

3.0 Diesel engine is known to be thirsty. 2 more cylinders and heavier. Probably also more likely to use the power now and than

I don't think it's the best choice to buy any diesel car purely for short distance driving. That being said, I would choose 30d over anything else (except maybe 40i), also in your situtation. In my opinion, it is that awesome: smooth, silent, powerful. In short: 6cyl>4cyl. No contest. But who am I to lecture, go testdrive one yourself.

A 3.0 diesel known to be thirsty, in what era? Speaking of todays B57 engine, sure, it depends how hard you like to play with the throttle. For example, I (with a 30d xdrive) averaged 5L/100km on my way to work today (30km highway, 10km motorway, 10km city, avg speed 80km/h, temperature below zero celcius). My previous 420d (rwd) did hardly any better than that. I'm still in break-in phase so the final judgement is to be given. So far I'm impressed with the consumption figures (too).

The newest 20d is no doubt a great engine and universally the smarter choice as soon as we start to talk about €s. Then again, is buying a BMW an economically sensible thing to do in the first place.

I don't like dpf, adblue and all that crap with diesel engine nor its sound. If same 3.0d engine is present in X6 2015 then I don't like the sound of it too . Mercedes benz w211 v6 diesel has much better engine sound than any bmw. M340i is to expensive so 330i was the only choice.

Long distance trips is between 6 and 7 L /100

5/100 in 3.0d x3 xdrive? That is impressive! Does it hold at longer 130km/h drives? Really like know because next car will certainly be a more performing x. All 3.0d bmw drivers I know, complain about mileage.

My average with over 10,000kms is 6.3ltr/100km (so around 45mpg) - mix of motorway and city driving

G20 330d xdrive. Can't test 130kmh here.. Quick observations (-6c, winter tyres): at 90kmh <5L/100km (1100rpm 8.gear), at 120 kmh around 6L/100km (1500rpm). Not scientific but more or less accurate anyway.

All of you driving on motorways most of the time and I am curious about city >90% driving . 330i at 150km/h is at 8L/100km which is really not bad
