Anyone else slice their leg on the door edge?

This has somehow happened to me twice. Luckily, i was wearing pants both times. Even cut through one of the pants. Weird. Am i just super clumsy? Never happened before with any other car.

Edit: Also, what is that?

I think your just pretty clumsy lol. I'm pretty sure that's to drain water from the door but it's just a guess

I believe it is to drain water as well. All my cars (even the Audis) have the same thing on the door. And if you have long legs, I can see how you can cut yourself.

I'm good, no issues for me. Atleast this thread helped me understand what that hole is on the edge of the door lol. Always wondered but never felt the need to ask

You are missing the rubber that is supposed to go over the bottom of the door. That covers the hole. And...yes...it is a necessary drain.

I don't have a rubber on mines neither. But then again what would the point be if you have to remove the rubber to drain it?

There’s no rubber covering for the drain hole.

I have it on my 530e and I apparently wrongly assumed it would be on the 3 series as well. It is part of the door seals. The drain opening sits behind it so it can still drain.

It seems hard to believe that BMW would leave that exposed! Sorry for the wrong info.

No worries

And I just realised my Audis have a better system to drain water than the unsightly one in the 330i. It looks so much better. Idk why I thought it looked exactly the same in the Audis.

Now that you mention it-every other vehicle I've ever been in has had a black rubber weather seal. I am trying to remember if the F30 had it. Can't remember now but don't ever remember scratching up my leg once in 3 years.

Either way, looks and seems "unfinished". Kind of like the top lining inside the trunk. I'll just have to be more careful lol.

I thought it was damaged when I first noticed it after taking delivery. Was pissed off! I thought someone must've opened the door and it must've went above the curb and scratched/chipped lol.

Then noticed it on the passenger door too and figured it was made that way.
