I don't know, but it was my understanding that the G20 (Driving Assistant Professional) hardware would support it (backwards-facing radar on both sides) and that the iDrive 7 in at least the current X5 has it, so it'd just be a software thing.

The problem is that all earlier cars don't have it even after an upgrade to the latest software.

However, people found out that you can code it in. So maybe it's just that dealer updates won't or can't change the coding; the question remains whether the forthcoming OTA would be able and if so, if BMW enables those features then.

It's typical for BMW to activate new features only available after a certain production date. They've done it before many times.

The way around it is often through FDL coding, once the module(s) files are evaluated and the parameters are determined. It's much more difficult in last few years since BMW stripped off the text from the coding parameters, making it more difficult to figure things out. Nevertheless, if this is available through FDL coding, someone will figure it out.

In the case of iDrive7, it is possible they will enable the LCP assist view once they release a OTA update and the associated Readme advising customers of the change. Maybe!

My G20 has just come back from the garage with 07/2019.53 installed (previous 03/2019.60). No spotify, no caring car, nothing of any significance that I can see other than a different animation when the PA is 'listening' to you.

I asked for this update explicitly and the guys on the service desk reacted as if I had discovered some secret they were reticent to share...

Has anyone else managed to get Spotify/Caring car on their iDrive, and what am I missing!?!

My car came with Caring Car on it, but not Spotify (I'm on 03/2019). I think Spotify is limited to 07/2019 (someone can prove me wrong here), but Caring Car may be limited based on something else, like region or having certain packages?

Other notes:

• I have the Assisted Driving View, it was active from the date of delivery.
• It somehow has the new feature where it can pull itself out of a parallel parking spot
• According to the manual that came with the car I should have the Drive Recorder feature although the car says that I am already subscribed to everything and it's not currently there.
• I do not have the Spotify app anywhere in the car.
• I have an Android so I don't have any input on the Car Play stuff.
• I noticed a cool thing on the way to work this morning, the Active Driving Assistant can understand and display a motorcycle on the screen, see the picture below.

So picked up another G20 for a family member this one was delivered a week ago. It has the 07/2019 SW. in comparison to mine (03/2019) I've noticed that reduced display is now an option where it hides all items in the driving cluster save for surrounding lines and speed you are traveling at. (Tach is hidden etc. ) looks very clean.

Can you please (or anyone else for that matter), post a picture of the Main Settings Menu, that shows 'Remote Software Update' option; the screen before this picture.

I am having trouble explaining to my dealer in Cyprus this things. They keep telling me that it will update itself and there is no need to have such options. Thank you.

Stopped at local BMW dealer to see if we can update the software to latest July version, service mgr said there is nothing they can do this point bcs nothing BMW shows that should be done.
I mentioned that people getting new version for the software at dealerships. They acted like what the heck i'm talking about!

BMW offering over the air updates and limited autonomous driving is in the step toward other manufactures "Tesla" ahem, however if they still go with the old way of thinking to limit functionality based on model year, they are still not customer focused.

What is the point in not allowing some of the features for the 2019 model when the 2020 model has the same hardware (assuming this, though I'd be surprised if there are major upgrades one year out), is it to entice me to buy a 2020? That's ridiculous..

Perhaps what is happening is MY2019 has a configuration file/DB setup that does not recognize new software features and needs to be enabled. Perhaps the dealers don't know about this, as we see they don't know about much from BMW home base..

If you have Live Cockpit Professional, I doubt it requires an additional package beyond having that. It is under Settings, Display, Dashboard I think then a checkbox for Reduced mode.

I just logged on there and checked -- it shows the 3/2019 Release notes for my car even though it came with 7.2019.30 from the factory.
