Depending on your taste(s), there's a lot not to like about that car.
Exactly. Looks aside. To each their own. Absolutely.

I happen to like the looks as well so the warranty and financing are icing on the cake. I think this represents the majority, and so introducing the MPerf parts line was one of the smarter moves for BMW in recent memory.
I do agree that the M Performance line was a great move for BMW. The in-house tuner approach does provide piece of mind for many buyers.

not a fan of those wheels but there is some cool lines here and there. I would rather go with BMW perf over this set up for my personal car

AC Schnitzer and Alpina are two different things.
While AC Schnitzer is an independent tuner, Alpina is a corporate partner of BMW.

AC Schnitzer is just a tuner that modifies vehicles in its shop while Alpina is an "in-house" manufacturer that has a dedicated manufacturing line in BMW plant.

Alpina is a very quality oriented manufacturer and its reputation is top notch. And while I do not know about AC Schnitzer, I can tell you that Alpina makes cars much much better!
I wish I can get my hands on a 3 or 5 series Alpina.
Unfortunately there are no offers for Nord America.

Yeah I agree with the wheels, but not from the design point of view as they look good, but most likely from cleaning point of view.

I know this and apart from the lame design of Alpina they take BMW engines and make the power delivery worse by increasing boost and or slapping larger blowers with more inertia in them. They can’t even remotely compete with the M divisions investment, engineering and meticulous testing and tuning but charge just as much or more. No thanks.

If it weren't for Alpina, AC schnitzer, Hartge and the likes of Hamann M performance parts wouldn't exist. They saw what these companies were making and decided to do it on their own. It's too bad now these timeless classic companies now have ugly cars to work with. There was a time BMW had the most aggressive looking cars. Late 80's, 90's early 2000's. Now they look like ricers.

The AC Schnitzer badges on all of the body kit parts look cheesy to me.

Hmm, not quite.

Alpina never wanted to be the M Division. That's why BMW allows it too.
Alpina's approach is different as they offer a better vehicle from the regular BMW line-up.

In terms of "meticulous testing", I can say that while M might do that while engineering their vehicles, the quality of parts and assembly line will have a word to say. While M si a total different animal did not proved to be ultra reliable (with all that "meticulous testing").
Alpina is a very reliable vehicle and their defect rate is very low. So whatever "slap" they put in there it works.
However, their improvements are wider than suggested, in some cases they even change the camber in the front and redesigned wishbones (B5); so is not really a "slap"...
And if Alpina will offer a 3 or 5 in North American continent I will be all over it. And if you want a fast Estate, Alpina can offer you one which will not be that slower than the M5.

If you are implying that Alpina's testing is not where it supposed to be prior of releasing a vehicle and providing a good reliability index, you are wrong.

In terms of design I find their language quite nice, calm, conservator and simple and I really like it as I identify myself with the style. But is a matter of taste and will not go there...

The last Alpina I drove was the B7 on one of the BMW track events. Power delivery was truly horrid compared to the N63 in the 5,6 and 7 series cars I drove at the same event. Huge lag on-off throttle and overall soft throttle feel. BMW would never release a car with this engine character, hence the testing and tuning comment. The 750i M-Sport impressed me more than any car on how well it performed for what is. The heavier 760 with the V12 was in another level if you want more power in a cruiser. The M cars were not even comparable in terms of engine response and delivery. Of all cars there I liked the Alpina the least. I see no point of Alpinas. You want a fast 3, the M340i is there, you want a fast 5 you got the M550i both are really, really fast while being pampering and luxurious. If you want to go faster than they can you need serious handling to keep up and then you have the M cars.
