When I put my car in manual mode(shifter to left) isn't it suppose to give me full control over when I shift? The car still shifts on its own. Goes from S1 to M2.
something is strange. I remember it staying in S mode when I shift using paddles. I put the shifter to the left and it would go from S1 then to M2, M3, M4 etc. instead of S1 S2 S3.etc It use to, but not anymore. Hard to explain, but like this video. |

Just moving the gear selector to the left doesn’t put the transmission in manual mode. It puts the tranny in Sport mode, still automatic shifting. Actually moving the gear selector up or down or using the paddle shifters puts it into manual mode.

When first shifting to manual mode your car is in sport mode with automatic shifting. If you shift the console selector manually it changes to sport mode manual. At least this is how my E90 works.
