Using a battery charger on G20 M340i xDrive

The M340 has 2 batteries. One is in the trunk and is a big AGM and the other is under the hood. The one under the hood is a Lithium Ion batters. The 2 appear to be connected to the same bus.

Since I frequently travel, I hook the car up to a battery charger. What mode do I select?? AGM or Lithium?? What are the differences?

This is fascinating I haven't had the need to use it on the M340ix yet but I use the "Battery Tender" when I am away for extended periods. There is no battery type choice on the device.

How quickly would the batteries drain when away? If I take a 10 day vacation would that be enough time?

Ive left all my cars (2 Audis and 2 BMWs) in the garage for a month at a time when I was on vacation and had zero issues with battery drain. In India, I have a VW Polo sedan and Jetta and they’ve been lying around for months (6 months in one instance) and they didn’t have any battery drain issues either. Though those cars were started like once a month but not driven.

So yes. A 10 day vacation should not be a problem at all.

I'm interested in this too. Now that we (in the UK at least) are in lock down, it's gonna be a while until the car will see any decent runs to charge up the battery.

And where do people hook chargers up to? The 'jump points' under the bonnet?

Yes they are the correct connections..... just put mine on to charge for the same reasons in your post.

Ta. I think I'll use the AGM option on my trickle charger. I'm guessing that's where the majority of the juice is coming from...

Where exactly under the hood is the lithium battery ? I haven't seen one in my M340i xDrive. What is its purpose ?

Owner manual (BMW Drivers Guide) says to charge it in the exactly same way as if you need external power help from another car. Which means to hook the charger on "plus" point under bonnet (covered with red plastic cap). And the small Li-on battery sits close to this plus point towards the windshield behind wheel arch.
