I guess they are trying to discourage long tows, rather than just dragging the car onto a flatbed. And assuming that flatbed operators will have other ways to drag the car.
Seems like it's a new-ish change for BMW. I wonder whether other series are affected as well? And it's a bit mean that they leave out the screwdriver too. |

I think non hybrids get the eye, screwdriver and wheel key. Hybrids just get the wheel key.
Or rather, recent hybrids. It seems to have changed at some point. And as I said above, it's a bit mean that on hybrids they leave out the screwdriver too. |

Had a response from BMW(UK) today (which to be fair was pretty quick):
The car has 3 year of complimentary roadside assistance when purchased from new. This means that in the infortune event of a breakdown, you can call our roadside assistance team who will send out a technician to you so you would not need to move the car yourself. Your BMW is not supposed to be towed therefore in the event of a breakdown, the team would use specialist skates in order to move the car onto a tow truck. So, basically, dont worry about it... and good luck after the three years is up.

It’s crazy to think after 3 years you have to hope the recovery driver has specialist equipment, rather than using a 10 quid towing eye which the car is already threaded for.
Continuing the minor rant, I would hardly call being winched on to a tow truck as being towed. They haven't got a bloody clue and are saying things that first come into their head. |

My go to guy at Sytner's tells me that all cars should have a towing eye - quote below. He also tells me that there should be info on HUD sport problem in the next few weeks.
The towing eye is normally in the boot and all cars come with them, as long as you are referring to the one that screws into the car for towing? |

Well, seeing as there's so many of us with a recent 330e and no towing eye I suspect your Sytner fella possibly isn't up to speed with what's happening at the factory.
