Spatial audio?
hey guys just wondering if anyone can shed some light on this new apple music feature: Spatial Audio (DOlby Atmos) and if the 2021 G20 has the audio system to support it.

In short, no. Apple Music uses it for some content, but it's mostly useful for movies. If you turn the surround setting up on the HK system you will get the effect of 3D sound but it's basically the same as you would have gotten anyways (I.e. There's no spatial audio driver helping so it's not the same). It's meant for headphones with an accelerometer built in.

No current car audio supports Dolby Atmos.

Correct (for now). There are some aftermarket stereo/head unit companies working on Atmos compatible solutions (not sure who buys aftermarket head units anymore though).

So in essence, yes the car is "capable" of it but it's up to apple to allow its capabilities to translate into the speaker system. It's a digital processing technique to simulate a bigger soundstage — spatial audio is NOT accelerometer based or designed to changed based on where you're listening from or looking. That technique is strictly used in the video watching options (movies, etc). Hope this clarifies things. |
