Thanks. I was hoping for some more numbers re mpg with flat battery with mostly motorways.
I mostly work at client locations which is different everyday and sometimes stay away from home so charging is not possible!! |

If your sticking to the speed limits then upper 40’s is achievable on a decent run. I got 43mpg on a drive back from France to the Midlands and that was sprited driving as I was late for my train.
If I start with a charge then upper 50’s Is doable. All depends how heavy you are on the pedal. |

Thanks wassap,
How long have you had the car for? Is the 43mpg for that journey only or your normal average ? I intend to stick to speed limits so as long as I can get 40++ I am happy as BIK savings would outweigh the additional cost of fuel as I would only be getting 12p/m I normally average 12k business miles + 6 k private.... shame I can’t charge at home to benefit from the electric battery!! |

I get ~40mpg on the motorway at 70mph. I’m able to charge from home and only done 3 long (50+ Miles) since October so I can’t comment more accurately. One think to remember is it’s only a 40 litre or 8.8 gallon tank so you’ll be filling up a lot compared to a diesel. BIK is why I have a 330e although I much prefer how it drives compared to the 320D I demoed. HTH

Hi Osxboy, exactly my reasons for getting a 330e is BIK tax which is way less of you compare to 320d.
Company will pay me 12p/mile so would roughly 42/43 to breakeven for business miles which will be roughly 12000 miles/year. I do about 6k/year private which I won’t be able to claim for... Is the 40mpg with Full battery charge ? I was reading with battery charge you can get roughly 60mpg..... |

Not having a pop at you guys (don’t blame you for a moment) but it’s a ridiculous loop hole that BIK is decimated and many users never even plug them in (my mate doesn’t) so it’s way worse for the environment lugging 300kg of empty batteries around.

Unfortunately there's loads of people in the same position. Live in blocks of flats, or city terrace housing or busy high streets. No idea what the government's plan is for charging their cars past 2030. Going to make nearly new diesel and petrol cars a premium.
Worth buying a truck load in the late 2020's. Alternative is running an uncharged hybrid.

Think you mentioned you stay in a few hotels? Quite a lot I've been in (before lockdown) had chargers so maybe an option there too.

I've not had mine long enough to offer real world figures, but I'm expecting something around the 42 to 45 mark for combined driving on ICE only. At the moment mine is displaying 90.0 average mpg, but that's with a load of electric miles. (don't think it displays a figure higher than that, or at least doesn't seem to for me)

My average over 6k miles since End of November is 58mpg. But I charge every night, every journey starts with a full charge, the return leg has no charge. I know it’s a tax fiddle but the car is more economical than my outgoing XC60 diesel. And the fact that I can drive at zero emissions in the city makes it’s a good green option.

@spr-guest13 no 40mpg is what I get on a long run with no charge. So far I’ve done 3,992 miles, I plug in every day and my wife can get to school and back on a charge. I’ve put 125 litres (27.5 gallons) of fuel in and the car says my long term average is 90+ mpg but that is the highest it can show. When I looked at BIK mine is ~£145 a month a similar spec 320d was estimated at £460 per month. I’m not sure it would make sense to have a 330e with out the BIK advantage unless your commute is doable on electric.

Yeah I am sure load here went for 330e due to BIK benefits. It’s true for most PHEV not just 330e however from what I’ve heard the ride is also a lost more refined and better than 320d and 320i with option to use electric when needed. A lot of big cities are now planning to ban diesel cars in the next 2/3 years so if you’ve got a diesel you’ll have to worry about those travels as well.
Anyways as long as I can get 43ish Mpg combined (motorway + urban) I am happy.... From what I’ve heard it’s possible as long as I drive sensibly but was hoping to get feedback from users who has actually used ICE only for more than one journey I.e for a month or 2 to get a better picture as most on here charge often... |

So I did some basic calcs of going with a 330e for company car users like me:
BIK 320d = £220 BIK 330e = £94 Monthly cost of running 1500 miles 330e @35mpg (not plugging in) = £241 I should be able to claim back 1000 miles @ 12p/m =£120 Additional cost of fuel (worst case scenario) = £120 £120+£94 = £214 (monthly) for 330e 320d private miles 5000 @ 50mpg = £56 £220+56= £276 (monthly) for 320d So even if I dont charge my 330e and I get 35mpg I should be better of with 330e? .....Obvisouly I can improve on it if I say charge 1/2 times a week if I can.....What's everyone views on it??? |

A lot of cities are banning diesels in 2 - 3 years? Where does that come from? I’ve heard of cities making low emission zones where you would need to have a EURO6 diesel or EURO4 petrol but we’re discussing new car justification here so that doesn’t apply. Do you have a link or list of cities banning diesels?

"Leeds has now responded to Bristol's bold plans to ban diesel vehicles from the city centre.
To try and reduce emissions, the councils in charge of both cities are setting up Clean Air Zones, where vehicles that do not meet pre-determined emission standards will be charged a daily fee. Late last month, Bristol City Council announced it is looking to go one step further and ban all diesel vehicles from a small area of the city centre by 2021" https://www.leeds-live.co.uk/news/le...l-car-17194728 |
