The costs stack up it seems and lets be honest the fact its a nice smooth petrol will be a plus. The small tank will be a bind though. If you are doing 1500 miles a month, with a tank that is 8.8 gallons, so a usable 7.5 to allow a bit of reserve.... at 40mpg you will be getting 300 miles on a tank, so filling up more than weekly. Not sure if you will be doing days of more than 300 miles, but that might get a bit boring....

Many hotels have plug in points now as said, as do city centres so you might be able to avoid parking charges by using a plug in point and get some charge as well at the same time!

Brighton soon too, apparently.

But it’s not just bans, things like resident parking permits can cost a lot more for diesel, even clean diesels.

The bans referred to do not include EURO6 compliant vehicles, which was my point. Not relevant for a new car and the Leeds one linked doesn’t even include private vehicles.

Agreed xenon and I just read the title rather than the detail but it shows what the the future looks for diesel especially if you are a business and having diesel cars in your fleet. I read the other day that centrica is going all electrics for their fleet vehicle’s.....anyways it wasn’t the whole purpose of this post and reason for me going for 330e.
So anymore feedback from users of g20 330e “mpg with flat battery”
I’ve done my calculations on 35mpg just to be on the safe side but it looks like I should be able to get 40mpg as long as I drive sensibly...

In Brighton it's just diesel period, they don’t care whether it's low emissions or not.

If your driving style gets you 50mpg with a diesel then 40mpg will be achievable on the 330e easy.

Getting about 53 mpg since I've had this mondeo ( 4 years ago) and never once I looked at the fuel consumption untill last week when I was looking at getting 330e....
Last year for obvious reasons has been local drives only with limited motorway journeys which normally is not good for diesel so I reckon before Covid mpg was probably like 55++....

Very excited to drive this 330e when I eventually get it...however still a bit worried about the real world mpg and not charging the battery hence my conservative estimates of 35 mpg when doing my calcs even though a number of people has stated that I should get 40 ++ if I drive sensibly..

I am going for "BMW 330e Saloon 2.0 Sport Pro Auto" in Alpine white....lets hope I am not disappinted at my decision lol.....

Go in determined to make it work for you. Maybe your situation will change along the way, and you'll get opportunities to charge more often than you anticipate today.

Coming back to the question about mpg....anymore real life numbers ??
I had to use mine without charging for nearly 4 months due to the hybrid recall and on short runs with no charge, I was getting 15-25mpg. The tank is small as well as the range was less than 200 miles. I was lucky to make it to 30mpg the whole time. Now it's back I haven't put a drop of fuel in it in about 4 weeks.

If you can't charge it, having a 330e doesn't make any sense apart from the tax but it's a complete waste of the car. The boot is small as well.

Cant imagine how you'd get 15 - 25mpg. Doesn't remotely come close to my experience.

Nope, if I don't charge mine I am looking at 35-40 mpg on long runs.
I doubt if that goes down to 15-25 on short. The engine is the same as 330i models so the only problem is the added battery weight on top of the figures for that model..?

I note you say "on long runs".

Short runs, particularly through the last few months of winter, will be a different set of figures for sure. If that has involved a lot of cold running and/or stop-start driving, easy to knock off at least 10mpg.

The extra 320kgs of weight (driving like a 330i) will be a big penalty in stop-start driving. Both extra weight and winter temperatures are much more easily absorbed on long runs.

We have to remember that driving longer trips in easy conditions, compared to heavy urban driving, can halve or double fuel consumption, (whichever way we look at it). It has been like this for as long as I've been driving, which is over 50 years.

It's all about use. As I've just posted.

I've known of a user driving a 335d, only getting something like 13mpg as an average. Central London... nothing wrong with the car, simply heavy driving conditions.

I have a G20 330e M Sport Plus built July 2020. It wasn't charged between the 11th October and 16th December due to the HV Battery Safety recall, but also had a regeneration setting change by the dealer to limit it to 30%, so pretty much zero battery operation for that 2 months.

My mileage during that period was approx 1050 and I have fuel receipts for £179. Unleaded was £1.054 a litre for the majority of that time.

By my calculations it worked out about 28mpg doing local journeys only.

It obviously gives a false mpg due to the limitation put on the vehicle to not regenerate, and explains why Jim_330e suffered even lower economy figures over his 4 month period.

Lots of short runs for me. During a very cold winter. And Sheffield is known for being hilly.

In my previous car, a Golf GTI Performance, if I left the office at 5pm and drove the 3 miles to the nursery, I used to get around 18-19mpg. Stop-start traffic all the way. And hills. But on a run, I could get to 40. And I noticed the 330e suffered the same with no charge.

I personally would say you are getting the wrong car for your intended use/reasons but they are great cars either way.

The wife did most of the miles so I am shocked it wasn't in single digits
BMW contribution to the fuel covered most of it

Yes, I wasn't out of pocket but having it back and using the electric makes me happy again. Not been to the fuel station yet since I got it back!

I already shared the calculations with you....the BIK different is massive and is only going up for diesel! Even the petrol only ones are not cheap...
