M340i MHT differences?
Hi
I’m looking at ordering a new MHT 340i, I’ve got a demo on Friday but can’t wait that long to find out.. Has anyone driven the MHT car as well as the older model and noticed any differences in the way it drives? Does the MHT give any more low down torque boost or extra power? It says 11hp for the MHT yet the overall power figures are the same. Cheers. |

Haven't driven an older m340 but I do own a mht one now and had an f31 340i.
I was pleasantly surprised by the tech and it works well. Start stop is fine now and the car coasts in comfort mode with the battery pulling it along which is a bit spooky at first. It just makes the car smoother to drive and the battery makes for more instant oomph when the turbo is spooling up I drove a long way in eco pro today and even that is far better now and coasts for longer using the battery and you can brake without coasting disabling. On the flip it also gives you extra shove when you floor it as "eboost". Impressive stuff. |

I will warn you now, if you test drive it, you will buy it. I did.

Thanks for the reply’s.
Typically I ignore Eco type modes, but probably will drive 80% of the time in default comfort type setting so it’s nice to know it’s responsive. The other 20% whatever individual settings give me manual gears and the most performance. I was looking at some figures of the new m440i which are all MHT, the figures on those are all pretty bonkers - I know it may be lighter than a touring I’m looking at but it got my thinking more had gone on with the new tech than on the face of it. |

My colleague just picked up a 340 MHT Saloon and complained about the exhaust being too quiet. I was confused until he showed me this. My Touring is a 2020 and his saloon is a 2021. Does seem to be a bit of a difference?

I think the USA versions were always a bit louder though as no Eu noise regs so probably not such a big difference here. Get him to unplug the exhaust flap, plenty of noise then but do agree not many burbles like the old f series used to have.

My MY21 M340i MHT sounds great in sport with the windows down and a hot exhaust, proper fruity and with a few crackles and pops (thankfully no bangs, I'm not a fan of those).
But it has taken a couple of thousand miles and with the windows up and sunroof closed you can't hear it, the sound deadening is too good in that respect. But then when I'm cruising down the motorway in comfort I do appreciate the lack of noise.

It sounded fine to me, I’ve never been a fan of loud loud cars anyway..
I never noticed the E boost thing come up that I’ve seen on YouTube - when does that happen? |

I did indeed drive a MHT 21 version at my local BM dealership on a test drive before purchasing my (approved used) 2020 edition. The '20 is noticeably more sonorous, even though--as other folks have said here--the difference isn't going to be quite as vivid in the UK as US given the muting influence of our filters/emissions regs. I'm glad I had a '20, however, since I appreciate the raw musicality of that edition even more, having graduated up from a G20 330i. As for performance, I didn't get a tangible sense that there was any more low down torque on the MHT. But the bottom line: these are sublime models whatever the manufacturing year! And the MHT won't detract in your case from how wonderfully treacly the B58 is.
